Hello!

This is for our work PC, the main insurance company has a web-enabled process that is ancient:

This site is optimized for Internet Explorer 5.5 with JavaScript enabled.

They tell me that they won't give IT support if I am using a 64-bit OS, they only give IT support for 32-bit operating systems.

I can't get the form printout in Java to work, can't get it to work on any PC except for my wife's 2008 laptop with Vista 32-bit.

Do I need to suck it up and order a 32-bit version? Or is there another option?

I currently have Windows 7 Pro OEM.

Thanks!

If you can manage it, I would just run that on a separate VM with 32 bit Windows 7 on it.

Starting with Vista, the same product key will operate 64- or 32-bit, as long as they are the same version, So if you can find a 32-bit Pro OEM, you should be able to install it with the key you have.

Edit: as VL correctly mentioned, nothing about XP will run IE 5.5.

I had it working on IE 8.0, but anything above that didn't work. And I can't install 8.0 on a 64-bit system

Assuming you're using 7, you shouldn't have to. IE8 is included as the default browser. If you've run windows update however, it'll automatically install IE11, unless you specifically exclude it.

Have you tried running the x86 version of IE11 in "enterprise mode"? That might just work...

Can you even get IE 5.5 for anything newer than XP?

The latest that'll run IE5.5 is 2000, far as I remember.

I got the VM running Windows XP, just doing the updates and such and then hopefully this will solve my issue!

What the hell kind of company do you work for?

Is this your IT department?

I had 5.5 installed on XP. Used something called "multiple IE" no idea if it's still around. This was years ago.

LOL! I own my own business, and it's the archaic insurance company I have to deal with that makes things difficult.

One issue I am running into, if I enable the printer in the XP VM, it is no longer available for my regular desktop (quickbooks). I have to shut down the VM for it to become online again.

Is there a way to make it work in both at the same time?

I ended up making it a wireless printer in 7, and then a direct connected printer in XP. That seems to have worked.
