Hey guys, I have a P4 533fsb chip, and was wondering if its worth it to upgrade from my 845 to a dual channel solution 865/875? Will i see any speed benefit (i have two sticks of crucial 512 pc2700 in my computer at the moment). All the benchmarks I've seen so far are for the 800mhz P4 chips, will having more memory bandwidth help the 533mhz chip much (actually overclocked to about 160fsb)?

A 2.4 533fsb on an 845 based mb does not get to utilize all of it's memory bandwidth potential. PC2700 ram running in single channel mode achieves 2.7gb/sec. Your same ram on a 865/875 mb running in dual channel mode can see mem bandwidth up to 5.4 gb/sec.

Now would you see that difference, It depends on what apps you use. Digital image processing of large files in Photoshop then yes you would see lower processing times. Loading of os and applications would still be throttled by the much slower disk subsystem, so you would not see a bifference.

The 865/875 with a 2.4C would offer the 800fsb and HT which together with dual channel mem make everything faster, but you should get PC3200 ram to match the P4C's 800fsb mem speed potential.
