was having problems with first setup's hds.. Everything worked fine for a while then drives started crashing and had things like

paging error on harddisk01/d

so i built a another build and it worked fine for a while and then same thing.. freezing up with same kind of errors..

maybe i have a bunch of bad 640gb drives? there is no overclock at all and purposly used 0 of the same parts from last build..

maybe two sets of bad ram?

my kids beat up my pc alot so im thinking maybe thats the reason but not sure..

(when my wife watches them im sure they beat it up even more..)

p45 and p35 chipsets q6600 on one of them and a c2d on the other (summer time didnt need quad heat anyway )

any thoughts? only thing similar is the cases where both antec 1200's.. maybe two bad psu's? im very frustrated.. the drives have not completely died but are giving lots of those errors

If the drives were shipped together, it's possible that your entire shipment has shipping damage.

Did you get them from Newegg? They are notorious for under-packaging HDs.

ZZF does a good job, by comparison.

zomg no they are not shipped together.. so your with me on thinking its just all damaged drives.. my girl says shes going to hit my computer with baseball batt sometimes so who knows.. i guess ill buy 10 more 640gb's and rubber mount them.. maybe buy a bigger desk so they cant beat on the pc.. or mount the pc on rubber mount? i dunno very sad maybe its just that WD SUX!? i always thought that in the past untill they came out with the 640gb's but seagate was my previous choice and they aint to hot nowdays either..

any other thoughts ideas.. maybe lots of bad sata cables? two sets of bad ram might do this? i guess ill run memtest for a day and see.. or is that long enough?

If "beat up" a PC means physical impact, that's extremely hard on a spinning hard drive. You'll get head and platter damage. The head is floating at a microscopic height above a platter spinning at 7200 RPM.

I suggest you buy a few SSD drives so they can beat on those... :)
If the HDs are actually bad, then RMA them to WD.
When I usually see the 'paging error on harddisk01/d ' that means a issue with either the HD or the cable, also possible to be the controller.
If you have actual bad blocks, then yes, the HD is going belly up.
