I found a pretty sweet proc+mobo combo on NewEgg for $94 so I think I got that part of it down. However, I really need help on video cards. I have not kept up at all and I"m totally lost with all the new card options out there. What card will give me the best bang for the buck?

P.S. proc+mobo suggestions are also welcome. Here's a link to the current deal (http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103023 with the mobo combo listed) so if you can do better then that, let me know. :)

Do you already have some parts, or is $300 for everything? Everything being CPU, mobo, RAM, HDD, video card, Case, PSU, optical drive, monitor, keyboard/mouse. And let's not forget an OS.

If $300 is for everything, you'll have a hard time doing it with new parts, not including a monitor or OS. I guess a free after rebate case and PSU would make it possible. You could also pick up some things from the FS/FT forum, or pick up a low end model from the Dell outlet.

Oh sorry, $300 is for a mobo+cpu+video card combo. I have everything else, just upgrading these three things.

Sweet, I see that card is listed as $189 at ZZF. How does this compare to, say, a X800XTPE? (The last card I remember looking at in benchmarks. :D)

Join us! I went to this X1950XT from an X800 Pro. The X800 could still just about run HL2 at full details but the pretties in HL2: Episode One were making it die :(.
