I currently run an Asus P5B-E 1.01G version in my main system with a E6400.
I just ordered a Gigabyte DS-3 and a 6300 for my HTPC system. That was the plan anyway.

Then I came across info saying that the Gigabyte is a better board then my rev Asus.
My main rig does get overclocked. Currently 3.03Ghz on the 6400 and the Asus.
I haven't really pushed it to see if the board has more.

Now I am considering a swap that honestly would be a pain in the butt.
I am thinking the Gigabyte for my main rig and move the Asus to my HTPC.

Is the potential gain in performance worth the hassle?

both of those boards should be similar in overclocking ability. why don't you try pushing the P5B-E before you think about going through a hassle?

NO. I don't know who's telling you the DS3 has better performance potential than the P5B-E. If that statement is true then the performance gains will be unnoticeable at best.

On second thought - There is one quirk that makes the DS3 better at overclocking. That is that the P5B-E is limited to 2.1V on the RAM. The DS3 allows you to push the RAM higher. However, this is only useful if you are running RAM that is made with Micron memory.

Edit - Oh, and the P5B-E has a firewire port which might come in useful for your HTPC if you need to connect a video camera to watch movies directly from the camera. The DS3 lacks it.

It came from the last DS3 article on Anandtech under motherboards. It was mostly a discussion of the newest bios and how much it has improved the board.

I think I will stick to the plan as I originally had it. I don't think I need firewire.
