Have $1000... Could someone recommend a good laptop for college

Dell 600m and 700m, your school might give a school discount ontop of whatever is already on discount. Go on the school store on the web and see what kind of deals they give. I got 10-15% off notebooks (didnt buy Dell though) over the $300 already given.

oh well... gave in to a Gateway for $900 out the door at Best Buy

Centrino
1.6Ghz
512MB RAM
60GB HD
8X DL DVD Burner
802.11 b/g wireless
15.4" WXGA TFT widescreen display
Weighs 6.3 lbs.
Measures 1.4"

Should work for basic word processing and stuff. Its for real estate courses, so no need for a nice vid chip.

if your school is mostly mac based, get an ibook.. otherwise get the 700m with the coupon. both are very light machines, those pounds add up when ur lugging it around all day :] heh

He already said he got a 15.4" Gateway (and I'm assuming someone who got a 15.4" wasn't exactly in the market for a 700M).

Get a used IBM or check out IBM's website for their laptops and possibly you can get a T series for that price (if you can't get the T series for 1K new then get either a refurb or used on ebay) Avoid the T30 series laptops.

I see an Centrino Acer from Circuit City for $750 out the door no rebate involved. Personally tried it out and the quality is decent although the keyboard and touchpad still needs some improvement.
