Hauppauge WINTV-HD

Hey all... In a few weeks I'm headed off for college, which to my surprise, has digital cable. Since I'd prefer to use my computer as my TV, I'm thinking of purchasing a WINTV-HD card from Hauppauge. Could anyone who owns the card give me the pros and cons of its use? I'm not into recording HDTV, but if possible I would like to use the S-video imput to plug a PS2 or Xbox into. Also, is there a way to configure it so that the computer "takes care" of the sound? I have a rather complex speaker setup plugged into my soundcard (surround, AC3 with software configured S/PDIF through WinDVD), and would like it very much if the TV card could play through. Thanks in advance.

I have the card. Well, it's in a box....cause i don't use it anymore :p

anywho, when i *did* use it it worked pretty well. Never bothered to get a decent antenna to use the HDTV features

pretty decent win2k driver support, (and XP), which was important (the main reason i purchased it)

got it for $50 back when they had a hot deal on it a long time ago

i'm pretty sure only way to get sound out of it is to run it into the line in (stupid, i know)

as far as add on tv tuners, it's probably a wise purchase, assuming you don't pay too much

Thanks guys. Apex, will the MyHD/access resolve my sound problem or allow for an S-Video input? I don't see a whole lot of information on it on the site the link directed me to. How is the picture quality? Are there any other advantages versus the Hauppauge card besides the software? Also to note, the newest card might be the best for me since I'm using XP Pro. Thanks for your help.

-edit: remembered a few little things

anyone know why these all only support 125 channels? I've got Time Warner digital cable and there's a bit over 250 channels. Plus they're spread out, with gaps up to about 275.

ChivalricRonin:

I'd do a search here:

AVS Forums

That place is an absolute goldmine for audio video related information.
