Perusing my post history may or may not indicate that I have a pretty big hangup with the state of our government. If not, I've basically come to the conclusion that our government is so far out of our control at this point that there really is no reeling it back in unless an individual were to somehow gain immense wealth and power and didn't want to keep it. Then, that individual might be able to buy enough support from our "representation" to make some sort of meaningful change.
When trying to sort out in my head how we've come to this beyond the simple power that wealth wields I need only spend about 10 or 15 minutes reading through posts here. While several issues that really do need addressing adorn the front page of P&N, reading the "debate" contained therein usually amounts to nothing more than seeing opposite sides of the same coin sticking their fingers in their ears and singing "la la la la I can't hear you" directly followed by some broad generalization and summarized by some sort of derogatory name calling.
When the populace as a whole stands an even dimmer chance of being able to see the forest through the trees, how is it a bunch of reasonably educated folks (I would say most in these forums fit this bill even if their posts sometimes hide the fact) can allow themselves to be so polarized by the left/right false dichotomy. How do any of you believe the jackasses in D.C. have any interest in what you think beyond a couple hollow talking points that you'll cling to come election time and they'll conveniently fail to deliver once securely in office? And how is it that those hollow talking points are so easily brushed aside by blaming the other side of the aisle?
Blah, blah, blah, I know. I only started the thread in the hopes that maybe a couple folks might peruse it and maybe, just maybe, temper their "zomg you're a moron because you don't agree with me" response the next time they're posting. Good night and good luck.
