hate to admit it, but i'm new to Pink Floyd.

As was mentioned before, I'd stick with the middle of their catalog if you want to hear what made the band famous, with those albums being Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. I'd then check out Meddle, as I find this to be the best of their pre Dark Side material. You can listen to anything earlier in any order, though you'll probably find The Piper at the Gates of Dawn to be a bit weird (same with Ummagumma). Finally, check out the post The Wall material. Pretty much all of their stuff is good, but their music varies greatly from their inception to their last album.

Nice thread - I was wondering about this myself, seeing that I'm starting to rebuild my CD collection after everything got stolen :| I ought to go see Australian Pink Floyd when they come to town in the next couple weeks...

Welcome..............to, the machine.

Edit: I'm going to see the AussieFloyd concert on Saturday night at the Fox Theater. I'm STOKED. It's the closest I'll ever come to seeing Floyd, aside from the Roger Waters concert a few years back. I wish Gilmore and Waters would get their crap together, but it'll never happen.

By the way, which one's Pink?

Young Lust has one of my favorite guitar solos in it- great song. "ooooo......need a dirty woman..." Great lyrics too! 😀

Pink Floyd is one of my all time fav. You must listen to the whole album and not just a few songs and not in random play.

Recommended albums:

Dark side of the moon
Wish you were here
The wall 1 and 2
Meddle

Agreed. Listening to an entire album from start to finish is highly recommended for most pink floyd and absolutely required for The Wall.

My favorites are the above plus Animals.

As a rule, the farther back you go, the stranger it gets.

Man, get the best of both worlds, and buy as many DVDs as you can. Awesome sound AND images. "The Wall" is a must, of course. Dark Side Of The Moon, wow I gotta see that! I've seen "Momentary Laps Of Reason" on video tape, but I'll be darned if I can find it on DVD. 😕 I liked it a lot, too!

Dark side of the Moon
The Wall
Wish You Were Here
Division Bell

A momentry lapse of reason - good, but not quite up there.
Final cut - used to listen to this a lot, but I have gotten over my mid-20's depression years
Anything before Dark side, they are good, but you have to be in a expermental mood!

Animals
Meddle
Wish You Were Here
Dark Side of the Moon
The Wall

I don't like much that they did after The Wall. Some of the very early stuff with Sid Barrett like Ummagumma is interesting too, but quite a bit different.

I like all them basically 🙂

I also would recommend The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking by Roger Waters

Watch The Wall movie

Listen to Dark Side of the Moon and watch The Wizard of Oz with no volume.

My favorite albums:

Animals
The Wall
Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here
