Hate Crime silliness

And if the owner still doesn't take the Witch down from its noose by Halloween, Lynch plans to protest outside his home. She says it's not only a hate crime against her religion, but offensive to the entire community.</a>

The absurdity of it all. Hate crimes are thought crimes. An attempt by the government and so called progressives to villify any speech they do not like. I can't wait for it to become a hate crime to up Christmas decorations.

Hate Crimes are also an attempt to circumvent double jeopardy. Too often when a criminal case fails they trot out hate crime violations and go at it that way.

So, how soon before other Halloween decorations become offensive to Wiccans the like ( an ex-girlfriend of mine is wiccan - she never got upset at any halloween decoration - she liked this time of year best ). Maybe crosses can get banned for being hate crimes against vampire cults!

Yeah I am being silly because the whole thing is absurd

That looks like a black witch 🙂 I mean, clearly it's in bad taste--I can see hanging a ghost or something, but that looks real, though I'd not get into a tizzy over it.

Anyway, you're right it's all a crazy pathetic knee-jerkoff reaction to anything anybody can find. Hate crimes are stupid as is making a big deal of this.

Well, it's a bit over the top, I mean if nothing other than the fact that you have a pretty life like looking human hanging there by a noose. Now if she was getting her panties in a bunch over one of those stupid "witch flew into the side of my house" things, then I would of course call that ridiculous. So I guess I'm saying that even if it wasn't a witch, but like, just some dude, hanging there by a noose, I'd still call it in poor taste. But not a hate crime.

Besides, I don't think anyone equates Wiccan "witches" to Halloween type witches, with the brooms and the potions and all of that.

Let me get this straight. Some wacko says its a hate crime and its news? Oh yeah, this story is like 3 weeks old.

The fact that THIS is a stupid example of a hate crime doesn't make the concept of hate crimes wrong. Free speech is not an unlimited right, obviously, you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater because of the potential for damage that has. Same goes for CERTAIN kinds of hate speech. If you think about it, there is a LOT of hateful bullshit you can say and still be protected by free speech...the US is one of the better countries in that regard. You can hold a Klan rally or listen to Ann Coulter or whatever and nobody is going to stop you. In face, my "fire" example aside, I don't think there are very many things that are truly speech that are banned by any hate crime laws. The problem is when you start pushing the boundaries of what might be reasonably called "speech" or "expression". Burning a cross on someone's lawn is not "free speech", for example.

And your double jeopardy excuse is bullshit. Find me ONE example of that happening...ever, and I'll believe it might be a problem. But since there is nothing about hate crime laws that allow someone to be tried twice, I think you're full of crap.

Shit that's mild compared to what my yard looks like on Halloween.

Of course a group of Baptists in a van decided to stop by a few years ago while I was outside mowing and tell me how ungodly it all was. Bunch of obnoxious a-holes. Some of them even started trying to take some of my decorations down while I was arguing with their Pastor.

Luckily my friends Smith & Wesson persuaded them to leave the property.

Some people do get carried away for Halloween. If she is a real witch she should be able to twinkle her nose and make the decoration disappear. Maybe she should just turn her neighbor into a toad or something.

Get Real.

and how is this different from half the stuff you post?

Yeah well in an age where saying something like, "Jesus had nothing to do with this award" is censored and labeled as hate speech by Catholic groups, this is what we get.

If someone had a noose around the image of Jesus there would be moral outrage and the person would probably be shot, yet I doubt that the OP would be posting about it.

If one group wants ridiculous protections then it has to apply to all groups; you reap what you sow, welcome the PC 21st century.

Right, you can only depict Jesus NAILED TO A CROSS, but not hung from a noose 🙂

I laugh at Wiccans, their religion was invented in the 50s by a pagan who wanted to see people naked. So he invented the whole dancing around the campfire and other naked rituals to get them to do it. I put Wicca in the same category as Scientology, but not far behind any other religion.

Anyway, that's a pretty stupid story, if you ask me.

This is all over the local news tonight. They are beating it to death. Seriously, some people need to get a grip on their sensitivity. Pretty soon we'll be banning music, books, and everything else under the sun that someone finds hateful or offensive. For christs sake its a length of rope.

Heh, I see you've fallen into the trap. Everyone LOVES the idea of the PC police run amok, which is why stories like this get so much air time and get flogged to death by talk show types. It's not because things like this are common, it's because they aren't common...but people who want to play the victim like the IDEA that these kind of complaints happen all the time. It's pretty blatant propaganda.
