So I have this odd issue, I can't figure it out.

Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H F6
i7-4770K
rosewill capstone 750w
Droid 4 / Droid Bionic
w7 ultimate 64bit

When I try to hook my phone up via USB to my PC, it isn't recognized. I get a "USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it...". It doesn't show up on 'Computer' as a listed drive, but a USB flash drive will.

My USB keyboard, mouse, and webcam all work just fine, in every port. USB 3.0, USB3.0 front panel, USB2.0. Suddenly, neither of my 2 droid phones, tried 2 different usb cables, in every port, works, but they have in the last month just fine. I downloaded the motorola driver even, but I never had to do that before. For a month I never had an issue, I used my phone fine on this PC, and suddenly I can't. I didn't install anything to do so, and I haven't installed anything new since. All my BIOS settings in regards to USB and EHCI/XHCI are at their defaults (Smart Auto, enabled, legacy, etc).

Anyone else with this issue? I just can't fathom what the problem is.

I've tried every port, and other devices work in every port.

I don't know what you mean by windows trying to configure it.

Might simply be a corrupt driver that it loads from the device via USB.

Corrupt USB? Im not sure what you propose is the issue and fix here.

I've used 2 different cables, as noted in the OP. I've also checked every USB port, and every other USB device I have works in every port, and it's a Haswell system (you know, came out like a week ago, not much time for lint...). Seriously, does anyone read posts around here?

Do you have a 2nd system to isolate it to the phone vs the computer?

It was actually both of the cables.

How odd, what are the chances of that. I mean there's only 4 cables in a USB line, that both cables had the 5v and ground still on but the 2 other lines be the ones that were severed, while both of the cables still looking okay physically... I mean the chances of that are just very slim.

Okay it wasn't the cables. I don't know what, but it's not working anymore. Uggh must be some sort of software issue...
