Hi I have seen different release dates (Sept., Jun). I am getting ready to make a HTPC using an i3 chip and was wondering if anyone knew when the new i3 chips are suppose to come out?

I'm getting ready to build HTPC/Gamer/Silent PC and I am looking at Ivy Bridge. Haswell runs hot so it will be interesting to see what they can possibly offer in i3's that is better than Ivy Bridge i3's.

Any Sandy or Ivy Bridge Intel i3 or i5 would do fine, I will be using i5-3350P @ $179.99. (PCI Express 3.0 only supported on Ivy i5 and higher) if it matters!

will sell you either of my trinity apu's, i hate them!

I'm not sure if that's what you want to say if you're looking to sell them! It wouldn't work for me anyway. I looked up the dearth that is Mini-ITX FM2 motherboards, and none of them look to be compatible with my Streacom fanless case. I simply cannot have the 24-pin ATX or memory slots at the top of the board. I also really want a mSATA port to reduce cables.

EDIT:

So, it looks like I'll be keeping an eye on the new i3s as well. My i3-3225 already has a HD4000, so the GPU jump won't be super significant.

And the reason is ??

They can't run Pi fast enough :p

On a serious note, with HT bringing even less and less gains as the physical core becomes even more efficient, and things starting to scale beyond 2 cores, i3s are starting to look "meh" for the desktop market. This late launch is kind of proof of that.

What is a dual core?...just kidding! But after owning an i7-3770K I must admit I am a bit spoiled! I built my gf a budget pc and was so impressed with it that I downgraded myself...i'll never do that again! Intel quad core from here on out for me! I watch a lot of blu-rays on the PC also and do moderate gaming only. I'm just sick of AMD drivers, CCC, and visual tearing!

Had a 7850 and for the most part after 12.11 drivers got released, flawless operation and trust me at one point i had a 7970 shortly after they came out and got rid of it quick too cause of drivers....bad luck perhaps for you?

Almost went fm2 and trinity myself recently on a rebuild, had a h61+8gb+7850 go out on me but luckily the i5 worked so dropping it into a new h61 board with new memory cost much less then FM2 all new would have....but came real close.:p

If you are planning on using Mini-ITX for that system and working on a budget.....

Haswell does bring the H81 chipset for native usb 3.0 support.

I think this will be particularly nice on Mini-ITX where the cheapest Ivy Bridge non-native USB 3.0 equipped motherboard starts at around $75. Native usb 3.0 MINI-ITX via B75 chipset starts at ~$90.

In contrast, H61 Mini-ITX (which don't have usb 3.0) boards start at $45.

So lets hope we see some cheap, but good, H81 Mini-ITX boards pop up in the future.
