After 30 years with 1 $3500 claim (hail damage). And, yes, I should have shopped a long time ago.

Personal: house, 2 cars, umbrella policy.
Business: liability, truck, umbrella policy.

They wanted to raise the premium on my business umbrella policy because my son started driving...o_O No, he does not drive the truck. Went with Auto Owners on the 4 personal policies and saved $800/year over State Farm. At that time, the business policies were cheaper at State Farm.

State agent calls me earlier in the week and wants to know if my son drives the truck. Nope. Get my new truck premium in the mail...$400/yr increase. Hartford here I come. Saving ~$40/yr for all 3 policies.

I dropped State Farm in January after almost 30 years with them. They kept raising my rates even though my cars were getting older and also on my house. I finally got fed up and switched to Amica. I even bumped up my coverage with Amica and I'm still saving almost $1,500 a year with Amica over State Farm. 3 cars, house, and umbrella policy. My only regret is I didn't do it sooner. That's what I get for being lazy. Bonus is Amica is rated way higher than State Farm.

yea i just got a 435 (from 290) dollar bill for state farm due to my son being put on the policy in Nov. he is a good student and went through drivers ed. called my agent to bitch and got a lame ass answer. so guess what pal, the residual income you have been making off me for the past 21 years will cease next month.

been shopping around and a must have for me is glass coverage. Liberty mutual offers it and has come in the cheapest auto insurance with the exact same coverage as state farm.

@OutHouse State billed me $107/mo when we added the kid and the 2002 Accord. Good student and drivers ed too.

S.C. has mandatory glass with auto insurance.

yea they fuck over the males. when my two daughters started driving the policy went up only 40 bucks. this is a very sore subject with my son. how ever it still does not justify the huge difference between state farm and Liberty Mutual.

i wish colorado had mandatory glass coverage. to add that to state farm it only add 50 cents to the policy per car. ive replace about 13 windshields in the past 20 years between all the cars ive owned. i just had a rock chip repaired on my benz yesterday. try to stop that sucker from cracking and keep my tinted front windshield. :D

Yeah that won't be cheap.

The wife's 2010 RAV 4 plus the 2002 Accord are $1270 for the year. The amount that I was paying just for the kid.

They upped mine almost 140 when I added my daughter and her car. I think they justified it in my case due to my mustang, even though I told them she is incapable of driving a manual. I mean I tried to teach her, originally wanting to let her drive my old kia, but in the last teaching session in an empty parking lot (in the kia) she put more wear and tear on that transmission in 2 hours than I had in the previous 185k miles... She couldn't even get that mustang anywhere if it was a dire emergency. Oh well, they probably figure, it's an opportunity to stick it to another customer.

Yeah my wife and I will be insurance shopping again soon.

I'm with you guys. My 16 year old has a 2002 audi sedan. Our insurance went up 1100/year. WTF? It's a 15 year old sedan with ABS and AWD. It's a safe grocery getter car. Same price between AMFAM and our current, Cincinnatti.

In Michigan its much cheaper to shop around every year or so than deal with the increases. I've been a new Geico, Liberty Mutual and State Farm customer about 3 times each with a few other random ones sprinkled in there

I asked if they were giving me the "introductory price" and was told no so hopefully I won't have to do this again any time soon.

And, Ex, this is why we live through you and your trip pics.....kids.

I am the opposite. I have been with State Farm for a while, not 30 plus years as you old geezers but about 10 years or so. I did check around with Progressive, Liberty, and All State and such last time for my vehicle insurance renewal and State Farm had the lowest premium for my vehicle.

It does help that I have discounts such as no at fault accident (crossing fingers), multiple policies, and low annual mileage, oh, and no kid/spouse.

Oh, speaking of glass coverage, State Farm used to cover that but not anymore (at least how it is now around here).

I must sadly inform you that I only have two more international trips planned this year. I'm not sure your gloomy and unhappy life can survive the lack of vicarious living

Yeah, State Farm sucks. Someone broke into my wife's car and stole about $2,500 worth of stuff including her camera and laptop. I think that State Farm only covered about $1,200 of it after deductibles and depreciation, and required us to find receipts and a police report for everything stolen. That took hours to complete.

Dang, I just put the house on SF, so with my car and house, I'm at something like $1300 per year. Pretty solid. I put, maybe 3k miles on the car each year (this one was on state farm for the last 8 years); and adding the house, they dropped the car premium by, I think, 30% or something crazy.

Good thing I don't have nutso kids sucking away my $$$$$. :D

It's crazy the difference between different insurance companies. When I first bought my house I did not know any better, I figured they were mostly all in the same ballpark, did not really want to screw around shopping around so just figured I'd go with same insurance as my parents. I was under 25 and NO insurer would insure my vehicle for a reasonable rate so I forgot about that idea for a while but obviously had to insure the house. $170/mo for the house. Being a first time home owner I figured that was a normal rate to pay, considering car insurance is around that ballpark and a house is worth way more than a car.

Fast forward to later when I'm over 25 and have a new car that I now want to put in my own name. I found out about this insurance company that we get a discount through work. So I call them up. For the house, it was like $35/mo! For the car it was $100+. Total it comes up to about $170. I switched in a heart beat. It's odd how house insurance can be cheaper than car insurance, but who am I to complain.

Auto Owners Insurance treats their insureds very well in my neck of the woods. I am ready to give them a shot.

Hopefully I'll never have to find out but that's good to know.

Some years back, one of the ladies in the office highly recommended pics/video. Said she was speaking from experience, having had a break in, and she's a SF rep. That's probably good advice anyway.

I just switched my auto and motorcycle over to State Farm. I added renters insurance and upped my coverage, all for less than I was paying with Geico for just the vehicles. Geico sucks and I have no idea why I was with them.

Not sure if it was a line or not, but my State Farm agent told me their rates vary quite a bit based on the market and type of driver. He implied that in some markets they just aren't very competitive. I'll see what happens when my youngest daughter starts driving.

They actually called me last year and forewarned about a rate increase because of big losses earlier in the state. I thought the increase was reasonable at the time but that was before the +kid rates.

Boy's insurance costs more because they have more testosterone in them.
