building acad workstation next week and looking for problem free and stable motherboard.

here are the parts:

AMD 4200+ X2
nvidia quadro 3400 or 1400 pci express card (will decide soon)
OCZ 2x1gb ddr400 cas3 (value)
1x74gb raptor
antec sonata II case

there is no intention for adding a second graphic card and no overclocking at all. therefore not looking for sli and overclocking capable motherboard, unless the one that best serves me support them both.

need your advice choosing the right board, and if you got any other advice for the rest of the parts, please let me know

My choice would be the Asus A8N SLI Deluxe as a stable platform. I would also check out the Matrox video cards as being a better choice for Acad. Take a look at the Parhelia APVe. Besides excellent CAD and GIS support it has HDTV out... if you get an itch to do some video editing. Otherwise your choice is excellent for CAD or editing. Add another SATA drive or two for data storage or scratch disk.

thanks bud

do you have any link comparing the performance among workstation cards including the matrox and quadro?

regarding another drive, the files will be on another computer so they dont need a huge storage for files.

I looked for a link and couldn't find one. I remember in years past that such tables were on their site. The general marketing is Nvidia for gamers (3d), Matrox for graphics professionals (2d). What can I say. Matrox is the standard for the graphics industry that I am familiar with. YRMV...lol.

I really hesitate to recommend what I own, but you might like to read Anadtech reviews of the latest NF4 Ultra MBs.
