I'm having a Parking Wars marathon via Netflix Instant today.

made me think of the one time my car got towed off the street... they were repaving the street around the corner from my apartment. there were "no parking, tow-away zone" emergency signs up, but I was in the corner and the only signs were half-way down the street.

like, I made a right turn, parked in the open space closest to the corner, and then turned around to walk in the opposite direction to my apartment. it was nighttime too, so the only way I would have seen the signs would have been if I walked in the wrong direction for half a block. you'd think with something like that, they'd put signs every 5'.

Once, I forgot to move my car on street cleaning day. You get a horrible sinking feeling when you walk out and realize your car isn't where you left it.

they tow your car for street cleaning? D:

that's just a $26 ticket here... inevitably happens to me once every couple months (due to not paying attention or telling myself that I'll get up early the next morning to move my car and then oversleeping)

One time I got back from the comp lab at 4 am soon after moving to a new area. Took the closest spot to my place and walking inside and crashed. I was so oblivious I didn't realize I parked in front of the only house with a driveway on the block (blocking the driveway).

Another time almost got towed for parking on the sidewalk but got there as they were loading onto the truck. Talked them into leaving the car but still got a $95 ticket. Also I felt like this was an unjustified ticket... every single car on the street was parked at least as far onto the sidewalk, however apparently the house I happened to park in front of is the only house the cares so they called the cops on it. I initially tried the whole good citizen/don't park on the sidewalk thing, but all that got me was a missing side-view mirror because people can't drive.

Around here, getting towed means you were in an accident or had a breakdown that rendered your vehicle incapable of being driven. I can't recall ever hearing of anyone I know having a vehicle towed for any other reason.

Oh wait... on occasion, someone will "tow" a vehicle with another vehicle if it's just been purchased from a private seller and hasn't been registered yet. A rope & flashing lights and the police generally leave you alone.

Yes. I parked a the parking lot next to a post office. Apparently it didn't belong to the post office. I was in there for 5 minutes and when I came out, my car was gone. I was both impressed and pissed at the same time, but mostly pissed.

I was out of town for a couple of weeks and left my car in the apartment parking lot. When I came back, I saw a note taped to my door, informing me that the parking lot was to be repaved in 3 days and any cars not moved would be towed. Since I was gone for so long, the parking lot had already been paved and my car was towed. I had to pay about $250 to get my car back.

I could not get the apartment management company to admit any kind of fault for that pathetic 3 days notice (there were a few other people who had their car unknowingly towed too). I tried to go the small claims route, but about a month later the management company went out of business.

had my car towed when visiting a friend. a neighbor thought i had hit his car, called the cops, and had my car impounded. cops investigated and found nothing, released the car to me after paying ~$300. was told to send in a request to the city for a refund and never got it. yeah, LA county is full of stupid.

Well, my truck was towed (on a flatbed) to the dealer to have the left rear parking brake fixed.

And then I towed my car with my truck to Texas a few years back when I moved.

Do those count?

I did call a tow company once.

I went out to my car in the morning to go to work and found a UHaul truck parked horizonally behind 3 cars in the parking lot, blocking us in. I had no idea who the truck belonged to and I had to get to work, so I called the two truck number that my landlord gave me. It was really satisfying when the tow truck started to pull away with the UHaul because you could hear stuff falling over inside.

(Oh and I'm not a jerk, it took about an hour before the tow truck actually showed up and nobody came out to the truck. I guess they went to bed.)

At a guess, about 30% of the local population use horses almost exclusively for transportation. The only time I've seen towing occur with them is when they have a hitch on their buggy and pull a boat behind it.

When i lived in Cambridge it was a 50$ ticket and a 90$ towing fee. they got hundreds of cars every week, they even drove down the street yelling on a PX that your car would be towed if you didn't move it

Nope.

Unless you count the time where the GF hit a deer and we had to put it on a flatbed to the repair shop.

No, but my friend was towed out of my HOA despite having a valid parking pass and parking in a valid guest spot. The HOA's response was that he didn't have a valid parking pass. I went with him to pick up his car and his parking pass was still displaying on his dash. We're still in the process of fighting it.

nope. the only times I had my car towed is when it was broke down. I'm pretty careful about parking in a tow away zone.

Nope, never got towed.

I did tow a car trailer for rear wheel driver vehicles. (1973 Jaguar XJ6 Series I)

Yes. it was at my apartment... I accidentally parked in the wrong spot and 3 hours later it was gone... cost me 215.73$ to get it back and there was small dents where the tow truck had latched on it.

Ive had my car/truck towed or towed it myself a few times. I work for a towing company.

As a matter of fact i towed my own truck a few weeks ago when i replaced the front leaf springs because i found out after grinding off the old ubolts and shackle mount bolts and removing the front axle that i was going to need a torch to burn out the old bushings and i didnt have one.

In college when parking spots were at a premium I got towed for parking in the wrong spots a few times. I did the whole "unknowingly parking in front of someone's driveway at 3AM" routine too.
