Has Yamaha just stopped developing Optical Drives?

I have a CRWF1 and its going strong. Not a single coaster, recognizes all media I put in it. And I love the DiscT@2 feature. Great for personalizing my music discs so my brothers can't easily take them as theirs. I was hoping for something in the DVD+/-R burners for them. But what happened?

They stopped. They decided there was too much Taiwanese/Chinese competition for optical drives.
The Japan-based company still produces musical intruments, motorcycles, stereos, etc.

The CRWF1 was arguably one of the best CD burners ever made, but after it's release Yamaha exited the optical drive market due to competive preasures and shrinking margins I doubt we'll see any new optical PC products from them in the near future.

Mine is still working great, the DiscT@2 was a nice feature although I don't use it much. The thing that I like about it is the rip speed, that thing smokes.
