Has xbox live been flaky recently?

I've been having connection problems to xbox live last few days. Connection would frequently get dropped or sometimes unable to connect at all. Right now for example, it appears to be down.

I can still browse, so my internet is ok. Anybody else experiencing problems?

Yep. That's Christmas apparently. New users flooding XBL with their shiny new gadgets, etc etc. It's been up and down lately for me as well. It'll probably go away by 2008.

Phew...I'm glad it's not just me.

According to the Xbox.com support site:

Status: Up and running

Users may experience issues performing transactions dependent on Windows Live ID availability including but not limited to Xbox 360 and Zune account creation, renewal, recovery, all DMP transactions, and logging into or creating Windows Live ID accounts. Users will experience intermittent issues including but not limited to: Tournaments, Storage Downloads, Gamer Tile, Statistics through Arbitration, Match Making, and Messaging. Additionally, Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 users may experience issues joining matches or posting statistics. Customer Support may also experience issues referencing customer data. We are aware of the issue and are currently working to resolve it. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I bought the HD-DVD addon today and couldn't download updates for it.

Oh look, randay trolling.

I haven't been playing online much since before Christmas (mostly been playing The Simpsons Game), but I did notice that xbox.com is slow as hell when I check to see if my friends are playing Halo.

It's odd, mine has slow as heck and seemingly logging me in an out, but for some reason my Rock Band drum duels with my brother in PA have not been affected. (I still lose them all :p)

Don't you guys think that expecting 100% uptime is a little unreasonable for that $4 a month you pay for the service? Granted it happened on a really bad day of the year - I was trying to hook up with some ATers to play Halo in Legendary myself.

I'm with you on this Randay. I've had my 360 for quite awhile but haven't played it in a very long time. I got COD4 and Mass Effect for Christmas and got addicted to COD multiplayer. For the last few days I don't even have the comfort of knowing that when I plop my lazy ass on the couch to enjoy an hour of COD that it is even going to work. It would be different if it were free but it's not free and therefore should be held to a much higher standard.

100% uptime is unreasonable for almost anything. However, this issue has been going on for around a week if you believe certain people though I've only experienced it myself for 4-5 days.

BTW, Live Issues (from digg)

There is a big difference between "down for a few hours due to technical difficulties" and "constant outages for almost a week". Former can be attributed to the act of God, while the later is usually results of bad software architecture and incompetent operations.
