back when vw had ugly cars their ads were like

"our cars are ugly, but that is just character"

now its like "our cars are nice, but theyre really expensive so we wont say the price on TV"

remembers seeing that phateon(sp?) for ~70k

It'd be good advertising if they actually sold cars...but they're in a serious sales slump in the US

They had a real good one back when the Karmen Ghia was released.

It talked about how it was a sports car, then showed it running into one of those paper walls (signs) and the wall STOPPED it. To which they said "Though it may not be the most POWERFUL sports car...."

VW has had some excellent and intelligent ads for a while. However for the past 2-3 years, they have become crappy. If you see some of the old VW ad (as in 5-10-15-20 years back) they were brilliant and intelligent. Especially those of the old Beetle, Corrodo etc. Unlike many other manufacturers VW almost never compared it's models to other competitors and instead liked to make fun of it's own marque. Ofcourse the likes of Honda, Mitsu now all copy VW ads and even take pot-shots at VW :disgust: Even BMW did it subtly in some of these recent ads of the 5 series.
