Has tint gotten any better?

I really want to tint my windows... 32% is fine, I'm not hiding from anyone.

~10 years ago tint was.. semi-durable at best. Even professional jobs (no bubbles, name brand etc) would get scratched and eventually had to be removed.

Has it gotten any better? I'm not looking for something that will hold up to a metal object or whatever, just hold up to years of rolling windows up and down without worrying about it

Not just scratched, but seems like tint eventually loses clarity and turns purple. At least my mom's previous 2000 Volvo S40 was like that and supposedly the tint was top notch stuff. Of course she lives in SoCal and gets sun year 'round...

are we talking aftermarket or windows actually made with obsidian style glass?

Get Madico Wincos or Huper Optik and you'll be good to go for awhile. They're tough to apply, so make sure you get it professionally installed.

That's because poor quality tints are just dyed. Dyes fade in the sun.

The newer ceramic based tints should last a long time. The Formula 1 Pinnacle tint I have on my car has a lifetime warranty against anything, even if I scratch it they'll replace it no charge.

Yup, cheap tint turns purple. I've had my tint for 3+yrs and it looks as good as on day one. I paid a little more but I wanted to make sure I didn't have to do it again.

Yea tint that turns purple is cheap tint. Hell over 10years ago there was good tint. I had it put in my Firebird and it lasted the life of the car.

there are plenty of tint brands that are higher quality. the cheap ones are still out there, and there are still shops that will tell you their cheap shit is the good shit to make a sale.

My LLumar tint is almost 6 years old now and still looks great. No bubbles or purple. I was told Windex could turn it purple, so I haven't used any.

When I bought my car it had the rear window tinted, the tint was bubbled and purple then and it hasn't gotten better in the last 10 years. 🙂

how is Ziebart? i've always done my own, but next time i plan to use a shop and Ziebart is like a block away.
