A messageboard that I frequent (http://board.zsnes.com) was recently hacked, presumably by a previous administrator who had created some dummy accounts. The board is currently taken "off-line" because it was immediately compromised again after restoring a two-week-old backup. I visited the page today to see if it was back online and pressed Ctrl+F5 to ensure that the page was refreshing. Immediately, I got a strange pop-up talking about Microsoft and conspiracies...but none of it made any sense. It was not an advertisement at all, because there was nothing to sell. There were two smaller IE pop-up windows which did not contain anything. Seems like some attempt at an exploit?
My system has had Windows XP Pro SP2 Release Candidate (x?) installed for about 1 week. Microsoft says that SP2 release cadidate users are not affected, so I don't think that my system has been compromised. I searched for the tell-tale files as soon as the exploit was discovered and they did not exist.
If anyone has a virtual machine to test with, please try this and tell me if it's dangerous:

Oh, and my system is pristine spyware-free...so I'm stumped.
