Has this season of Deadliest Catch been good?

so far the episodes ive seen have been great. and its very intriguing as was last years.

this has been the best season yet. I hate teh frickin' Rollo.

edit: coast guard boardings, boats getting rolled over by waves, all kinds of equipment breaking... it's been awesome.

hasn't been revealed. it was the end of this week's episode. i can't wait!

Same here. I haven't turned in this season...didn't know how good it would be without Mike Rowe. However, based upon some of ATOT member's comments, I mght just have to go catch the re-runs.

never heard of this show but i caught the tail end of an episode where this fairly large african american fella was pwned by the bering sea and he said he'd never do that again. it was great.

Last season was better. Now that the fishing system is boat quotas instead of open derby-style format there's a lot less pressure and urgency. The boats can now go back to port to make repairs or run away from storms and still get their quota. It's a lot less hardcore than it used to be. Still a decent show though.

I believe season one was filmed during opilio crab season. Maybe they have different rules and a shorter season...

It wasnt the Rollo that got rolled it was the one that starts with the A. The one that had the Greenhorn quit on them so they had to take him all the way back to port.

Phil Harris (Cornelia Marie) was talking smack on shore to Sig Hansen (Northwestern) and so they put nasty underwear in there pot and welded it shut.

Phil thought the Maverick did it till Sig radioed him and picked on him.

The Cornelia Marie hauled a pot and put about a 10ft pipe on the rope so the Northwestern couldnt bring it up. They also filled it with there garbage.

Season one covered both the King season and the Opilio season just like this season.

They changed the rules for '05/'06 because they thought that if they removed the competitive aspects from crabbing the crabbers would be more careful, more likely to address mechanical problems and more guys would make it back alive. We'll see how that works. So far the results are mixed. There was a boat that went back to pick up some unused gear back in Feb(? March? Can't remember) and sank in bad weather. So the dangers are there no matter what.

Wait for the Opie season. I know guys who crab and I used to work with a guy who was in the Coast Guard and patrolled the Bering during crab season. It's unreal. Last season's show was filmed during some better weather. This season was coooold. Lots of ice build up.

I kinda like the show that comes on after it now "Oil, Sweat and Rigs" too.
