mine broke, but the next model up, from what i can tell, has 1 less USB port, and i dont want to settle for that, do i have a case?

We have a few D600s left and when they die, we get D610s in return. It's got to be something expensive to fix, though. LCD or motherboard we get a new machine, pretty much anything else we get the part swapped.

Uhhh, that's to get you to buy it. I have a friend who used to work at compusa; they made as much with commissions as they did wages. He seemed to connote that tech support will be bitches about, but if you have everything in order, it'll get fixed

Same here. The D610 has more features but only one memory slot. The D600 has two.

My friend had Dell laptop go down under warranty. He got a newer model when it was returned. It seem that as models are discontinued, it is a common practice to swap out them with a newer model. Usually its a refurbished model which is just fine. The turnaround was less than 2 weeks, so that was nice.

They'll only replace it if it breaks 3 times or if the part is expensive

Doubt it. It's a system damage warranty, not a cosmetic or accidental damage warantee. That guy was trying to make a sale...and he got it.

The D610 has two as well. One is under the keyboard.

They usually have the parts available to replace just the part that broke. Sometimes many models share comoponents such as keyboards, and various other hardware pieces.

I didnt have this happen with a laptop but I had it happen with a tv just recently. When I bought the house I bought us a big screen tv. It broke on us and Toshiba stoped making one of the 3 parts it needed. No upgrade to next for free, BUT, they did refund us our money.

I dont know if that wil be the case for the laptop but its something you can bring to the table if they dont ;)

I bought a laptop from Best Buy 3 years ago with the extended warranty. When the LCD backlight started to act up, they broke the bezel when trying to repair it.

I refused to accept that and they ended up giving me a 17" Powerbook for $438 out the door.
