My air conditioner is from all appearances, not fully functional.

If I turn it on, it will work for a few minutes, then the black cylander object which I presume creates the cold air just stops working.

It also no longer generates water (in the past years, I had no problems getting water out of that thing.

 
I had that problem with my car first year I got it... defective H-valve, got replaced under warranty.

the H-valve allows the coolant to pass.. it was stuck closed and the A/C system was not getting any coolant.
