... your filling out an online form of some sort and press the TAB key to go to the next box and.... WHAMMO!!!! Another screen pops up on the screen! OH MAN I hate when that happens... doesn't come around too often but when it does BOY do I get mad. I'm always forced to restart the system, I just don't know what else I can do? Can anyone explain this or perhaps have a fix for this?

What do you mean, another screen pops up? Another IE window or what?

You could just close the popup window. I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying.

sorry, I wasn't very clear. I actually meant an existing window gets maximized every time you press tab. It just wouldn't have enhanced the story experience as much if I said, "press the TAB key to go to the next box and.... WHAMMO!!!! An EXISTING WINDOW gets MAXIMIZED covering UP the previous window you were working on!"

I still don't get it. To maximize an existing window I would think you would have to Alt+Tab to get to that window and then Alt+Space+X to maximize it... Mass Chaos!

What's REALLY fun is when you're using one of the two monitors attached to your system (other one is off), and you're typing away but something for some reason opens in the second window, and you can't figure out what just took control of the keyboard.

are you talking about those windows pop-up that completely maximize, and you cant close them down (they go completely full screen)?

For some reason I do know what you're talking about, and the only "fix" is indeed a good ol' reboot :D

The only work-around is to mouse/click on each box you need to fill in, then the other screens are not made current/maximized/whatever.

What causes that I wonder?

yes Madcowz....

I understand you. This happens to me from time to time. It seems to happen with IE after some heavy surfing sessions.

Feel better, you're not the only one ;)

It has happened to me. I've always attributed it to a Windows "feature" and the only way to fix it was to reboot.

actually this just happened to me. Try pressing "alt" once. I think somehow the alt key gets locked and won't let go until it is pressed again. That fixed it for me.

If it is what I am thinking, there is a quick and easy fix without having to reboot.

Just press and release the keys at the bottom of your keyboard (Ctrl, Windows Key, Alt, Alt, Windows Key, and finally the other Ctrl) one at a time. That happens a lot here at work. For some reason, Windows is registering it as one of them is being held down(kinda like and Alt-Tab thing), so you just have to press them to release it's hold.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, that's happened to me a few times in the past few months of using WindowsME. I figured that something was registering the ALT key being held down, so I would just reboot.

That sounds like the sticky-keys "feature" of the accessibility options. I just checked on my Win 2000 setup. Turns out the thing was enabled by default, so by pressing the shift key five times in a row, you turn on sticky-keys. I didn't know it was on, but I turned it off now.

Check your accessibility options. I dunno, but it looks like that may help. :)

I either do one of two things when the window thing happens....

1. Format, cause F$@k you Bill Gates, you aren't taking my computer over...

OR

2. Press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT on the left side of the keyboard and then the same on the right side. This resets your keyboard and everything is fine.

Which one I do depends on the amount of fibre intake for the day...

I have a similar gripe - when I'm typing something in a text box in IE (like I'm doing right now to post). Sometimes hitting backspace triggers "back" in IE and takes me back. When I hit forward - all my text is gone!! :|
