Yesterday I caught the flu and I was pretty sick. Had a headache, stuff nose, coughing, the whole deal. Anyway I also had a small lower back pain that's been lingering for about the last 3 months. The pain itself was relativly small and it didn't prevent me from doing anything I normally do. Well yesterday as I was getting out of my car, I coughed and a really sharp pain struck my lower back. It hurt so much I was barely able to walk on my own for the rest of the night. Today after a good nights sleep I can at least walk on my own(although it still hurts like hell). Does anyone know what might have caused this? Iv'e never had this happen to me before.

Thanks

Nope, but I have had a lingering low back pain for a few years. It's especially bad when sitting down for the first few moments and then getting up. I've determined in the last several weeks that the route cause of it was sleeping on my stomach. I've since done my absolute best to sleep on my back and sides and have spent a lot of time sleeping on the carpet with my knees up (so that my back is flush against the floor), and it's helped an awful lot, but still a ways to go.

Yeah it sounds like you have a pinched nerve. I've been dealing with one for the last 4 months after a wieght lifting accident. It doesn't bother me too much when I'm awake and up and about but when I go too bed at night I usually wake up after 3 or 4 hours of sleep in pain. I have to get up for about a half hour or until the pain resides before I can go back to sleep

I presume you saw a doctor - what did he say about it?

I think that for my problem, although this is not my thread 🙂o), mine is just some nasty inflammation or something.

I have bonespurs on my spinal colum from a previous injury and one of them has caused a Nerve canal on my vertbrae to narrow. I think my days working with free weights are over and I'll have to revert to wieght machines that allow me to isolate the muscle group so I can avoid putting pressure in the small of my back. Needless to say no more Dead Lifts for me.
