Has there ever been a MMO that doesn't suck up the bandwidth?

Has there? Every MMO that I've played has sucked my bandwidth up something terrible. It sucks. I suppose there are no more talented MMO makers.

Anyone got any links to any MMO that doesn't suck the bandwidth?

i used to play UO on dialup

and 'MMO' is stupid because it leaves off the noun. it's a bunch of adjectives. it's not a noun.

how much bandwidth usage is "suck up the bandwidth" ??
my 6mbit down 500kbit up cable line is plenty for 3 people to play WoW at the same time .... I wouldn't consider that anything close to "sucking up" bandwidth.

I too have 6mbit down and 500kbit up and it's noticeable on the network. I want one that isn't noticeable

NIK!!!!!

Very good, call Nik, I need more ideas. And the software forum is freaking slow. Along with almost all the rest of the forums. I think FS/T, OT, P&N, and GH are the only ones taht move right along

Yeah, but you don't need answers yesterday.... your ass isn't on the line... ask the mods to move it for your own sake. You won't get any real answers here unless your ass is demonstratably on fire.

A Tale in the Desert

Usually averaged about 6-8KB/s for me. Has pretty decent OpenGL graphics, but definitely a niche game. Also, the average maturity level in that game is about 15-20x that of WoW...

No problem, like I said, a very niche game. However they do have a 24 hr (in-game time) free trial. It is very complicated and hard to get started.

ATITD wiki. <-good guide to getting started.
Forums, IRC chat <-Great forums and IRC chat about the game. EGenesis is a very small company, so they largely rely on players to bug test, GM, etc.

The things I liked about the game were the lawmaking process, and demi-pharoh test. Which gave a voted player the ability to ban someone. And lawmaking allowed players to change the way the game worked for players. It is mostly a player run game. Be warned though, the initial download is pretty old, so you have to do lots of patching at first, but after that it is pretty smooth sailing. If you have a newer graphics card,GF4 or > be sure to enable advanced terrain engine. Otherwise the terrain looks kind of depressing.

get a linksys router and then use that open source firmware to make certain ports not use so much bandwidth. same idea as that d-link gaming router but not as expensive.

Had to do roughly the same thing with FFXI

You high? WoW averages well under 1kB/s. A 56k modem can more than handle it.

It's not necessarily an "MMORPG"; you could have an MMOFPS, etc. Or in the case of SOE games, an MMOPOS ;)
