Not sure if I have it or not, is it fully rolled out? Or still being deployed. Any way to verify if I am running it?

MS is rolling it out in waves through the end of the month. You'll know you have it when you get prompted to install an update. If you haven't been prompted yet in the last week, you haven't gotten it.

Isn't it also breaking some DVD drives?

That was a previous update according to Major Nelson. (http://majornelson.com/2011/05/18/clearing-up-some-confusion/) Certain 60GB Pro models with Lite-On drives have trouble reading discs after the update. No idea what the specific cause is, but if you have an affected console, MS will replace it with a 250GB Slim and one year of Live Gold for free for the trouble.

For the update that is currently rolling out to people, it adds paypal support, auto stand-by after one hour and the updated disc format that reclaims 1GB of space. I'm in the beta program for the update and still haven't received the "gold" dash update yet.

I was not in the trial period and got pushed the update last week. No problems on my end with the update.

I just got the update but am kind of hesitant to link my paypal account with live. I want to get on the 2 months of live for $2 deal but will paypal auto-renew after the 2 months? How easy would it be to turn off auto-renew?

Got the update this morning as well. Need to check and see if it'll read my discs, I played a single game of Black Ops which is installed to the HDD.

In order to automatically charge your account you have to allow it to do so in paypal, and last I checked it was fairly easy to manage which stores you allow to do this. After you set it up initially you should be able to disable Live from charging your account again unless you ask it to.

However this also means you'll have to authorize Live to use paypal if you buy any points or Gold again.

The update has a new firmware for all of the drives to support the updated disc format. Something was wrong with the Lite-On firmware.
