has the forums been down like for a few days?

No they are up and running just fine, they were down and up a bit last night as we did some work on the cluster

Apparently the redirect from the forums1 to forums was dropped. My bookmarks were still set for the forums1 that was instituted back in the great crash, and they stopped working for half a day, day before yesterday and then again yesterday. I logged into AnandTech and then clicked on FORUMS and saw the address was forums etc. This morning, the same thing, so I changed my bookmarks and have logged in and out three times since with no problem. The forums1 address had worked for many months, except for a short time recently when it was possible to get to them with the forums address and not with the forums1.

DNS changes were done on all the xxx1 sites for the implementation of failover and load balancing

P.S. bookmarking the xxx1 addresses should not be done. Very soon the load balancing is going in and it wont matter what server you hit they will both be under equal load. You should bookmark forums.anandtech.com or www.anandtech.com then when your request comes in the cluster manager will find the least busy server and put you there.

i stopped bookmarking to *1 when the forums went back to "normal."

a few minutes ago, i had trouble with www.anandtech.com, and typed in the 1, and the page went up.
