There is so much discussion about what the federal government should do. But have they done anything important domestically in the last 20 years? I'm a fan of gridlock and I'd love it if Congress and the president would just chill out on passing new laws. It's not like they do much good. Sarbanes-Oxley? Waste of time that hasn't stopped corruption. Obama health care reform? Half-assed measure that doesn't satisfy conservatives or liberals. About the only think I was a fan of was the bipartisan unemployment reform in the 90s and I have a hunch the effects of that reform have been a drop of the bucket compared to our current income/spending problems.
What do you think? What has the federal government done in the past 20 years that you think we couldn't have done without?
