Has SSL been dealt a huge blow by SSL sniffers?

With the SSL sniffer, you can pretty much read even SSL in clear text, so wouldn't there be a big risk in having a middle person somewhere along the way mimicking the handshake and cancel out the SSL protection?

you still need to get the client to trust the certificate which is how SSL proxies work to capture things like ssl/ssh tunneling.

Yea, if you can get someone to proxy their requests through you and use your cert that person is pretty much screwed anyway.

Heh, in a work/campus that's where bluecoat comes in. You gotta go through it to get internet and if you want internet the cert is put on your machine and trusted.
