Has Pricewatch been slacking lately?

when buying computer parts, I have always sworn by pricewatch as the best and easiest way to find the cheapest stuff.

I have been looking for an ATI 9800 AIW Pro.

The cheapest listing I found on pricewatch was $259 at allstarshop.com. Not bad. As I was contemplating my purchase, I decided to check pricegrabber.com and amazingly I found the same card for $203 after tax and shipping!!

A lot of the cheapest stuff at pricewatch was priced higher than the stuff at pricegrabber. why is this? is pricewatch losing customers?

I don't like that site. It always redirects to POS companies with POS websites (some legit some not) and those are for the cheapest. And like you said its been slackin. 😀

Pricewatch does not update the prices. As far as I know, they wait for the companies which are listed to send the updated prices. The number of participating companies has dramatically dwindled in the last year. Thus Pricewatch does not list many of the cheapest companies anymore.

I bet that part of the reason that many companies withdrew was because of the integrated ratings system. That weeds out a lot of the scum-sucking hole-in-the-wall shops that receive a lot of bad feedback.

I hate how pricewatch sometimes has different prices and different classifications for the same thing. Also, they may have a low price, but then when you look carefully, it's not exactly the correct product. That kind of sloppiness just pisses me off.

Going back and forth between newegg and zipzoomfly seems to work for me as far as finding good prices. It seems like pricewatch always has these no name sites on there that may have the lowest price today, but aren't there anymore next month. however, newegg and zipzoomfly are pretty consistently in the lower end of the prices and they've been around for quite a while. that's my 2 cents.

I still like pricewatch... i like the way it has each specific item on a seperate link... if u want an athlon64 3000+ u dont have to go across 20 other processors before u find out its price, like in pricegrabber or somewhere else.
