Has NBA lost it's edge?

I'm from the early 90's hayday of NBA, when Barkley was punching mascots, and Jordan was on his platform. Then new breed of players just doesn't seem to have the same mentality of the players that I loved to watch. Maybe it's just because they are younger, I dunno. I miss the days of Bird, Drexler, Robinson, Miller, Rodman, Laimbier, and countless others out there fighting it out on the court.

Maybe it's the money, I dunno, just seems like teams nowdays have a choice of a handful of excellent players sprinkled around the league, and the rest is just filler.

The egomaniacal crybaby millionaire felons who comprise the marquee players these days might have something to do with it.

Fact is no one wants to see one man going down the court to shoot anymore.
Egos, stats, money you pick. NBA players for the most part are selfish.
Ya Iverson the Philly Police are out to get you. Come on.

If people want to watch basketball anymore they watch College Basketball.

When's the last time you saw a 50,000 person, beer drinking, hot dog eating, jersey buying crowd show up to watch a rocket scientist?

Iverson thinks the police are out to get him cause....he's a scumbag. One hell of a ball player...but come on, anyone else would have received jailtime for kick their wife outta a house nude and pulling a pistol on two people. Not that this was his first run-in with the law.

the late 80's - early 90's were a great time in the NBA, you are definately right about that.

To be honest no one in the NBA right now has the integrity or personality that those guy had. Sure they have game, but they are boring as hell. You have Kobe trying to be Mike, but damn he's so bad at it, he doesnt hold a candle. Then you have Kenyon Martin and Rasheed Wallace trying to be like Barkley and Rodman, but again, they just don't have the personality those guys had. They are just jerkoffs. Atleast Barkley was a very funny guy and always made wisecracks and acted the part. Rasheed just gets thrown outta games and cusses. No class.

Oh well.

I know that, it's just the principle of what's really more important. And yes once again the almighty dollar wins...

I was a fan of the NBA in the early-90's as well... But now, I think I find enjoyment watching the players self-destruct right in front of our eyes. (And living in Portland, the Trailblazers give me a lot to look at. ;) )

It's more than just "egomaniacal crybaby millionaires", though. You don't see the selfish, self-centered, anti-social behavoir so much in other leagues (especially the NHL.)

The NBA is boring now I haven't watched a complete game yet this season, or even the equivalent of one. Maybe its because the team is sucking, I dunno. I haven't even watched that much football really but at least the football I am watching is good. I can't even remember what game I was enjoying Sunday afternoon.

I haven't watched much NBA since the Pistons heydey of the early 90's. I always preferred hockey. The NHL rules!

I don't blame the players because that's how they are "raised". In HS they could do what ever they wanted, got laid by the best girls, got invited to all the parties, and and in college ten times the fun and even more adoration. Grades? Who cares, the best colleges will take you? Kick someones ass? You probably have 30 witnesses with you that said they started it. It's our fault, we have created them. The only way to change thier behavoir is stop watching. I stopped about 94'ish after Rodman came into his own.

I truly believe most of these guys don't know right from wrong anymore.

NBA had an edge??? Since when?

The NBA is for all those cities that either:

- don't have a good college basketball team to root for
or
- is too big to support a single college team

You might think LA fits neither of the clauses above, but really the NBA team is there for the Hollyweirdos to have a place to hang out and brag about how much money they can blow on a seat at a game.

Don't worry, you and the other Faker fans aren't watching complete games anymore because your team isn't winning.:p

Meanwhile, I went to a NUGGETS game this year. Terrible game, but the fun I had with my friends...Priceless.

Last night's Jets vs Raiders was a good monday night game! Didn't know the outcome until the final seconds.

Okay, if you are a Raiders fan, you "knew" the outcome at kick-off.

I only watch the games when it's on national TV (I'm too cheap to get cable). I still think the NBA is still pretty cool....last year's Lakers - Kings series was very exciting to watch. This year, Mavericks & Pacers are shaping up to be pretty good teams. It's gonna get more and more interesting as the season goes on. Go Lakers! :)

While I'm not a big fan of basketball, I'll definitely agree with you. I used to watch the NBA playoffs and none of the regular season. But I don't even watch the playoffs anymore. I might watch a game 7 of the championship game or something like that, but the NBA just doesn't float my boat anymore. Not to go off on a huge tangent here, but I think the same thing about professional sports in general. I'd much rather watch a college football game (I'll use football as my example since football is my main sport) than an NFL game (although the same thing holds true like it does in the NBA - I watch the Super Bowl, but none of the regular season).

The NBA is just fine, its just transcending through the times. Nostalgia gets you nowhere.
