Has my Bios UI overclocked my CPU for me already?

Basically on fire strike my physics score was a bit low, and i got an overall firestrike total of 6900 on my 2500k with 770 lightning

Then in the bios I noticed it was on 'normal' or balanced mode. I moved the general UI setting on the asus board to 'performance', and it suggested the performance should increase. I literally clicked one pre set button.

Next firestrike, I got 7000-7200 with better physics.

When I check the CPU clock in firestrikes data, it says the CPU was constantly running at 4300ish MHz. On the clock frequency, it says 4300 MHz ( 3300 MHz ). I remember 3.3 is the 2500k's stock clock isn't it??

Has it overclocked automatically? Temperatures are higher too. I bought a 212 evo cooler and new corsair case fans in preparation for an overclock to 4.5 Ghz. Not sure I need to now? With the 212 evo and fans in, with the performance mode' option selected in the bios, my CPU in GTA 5 at 100% sits at 65-72 degrees C, which I think is acceptable.

Some will when you set them up, I have no idea what BIOS or MOBO you're using I guess.

You can set up and run them one boosted settings automatically in even old BIOS's, many will run well but tend to run a bit hot and need tweaking.

Sounds it's doing a pretty good job all ready.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

For what I run things 65-72 is pretty much below norm :p I usually stress things a bit.

Sounds like it's working as intended though.

Apparently, you're doing it right.

Well I am new to overclocking, and I hear about everyone adjusting multipliers and voltages etc, and was keen to learn about it. I already fitted the 212 evo and new fans in preparation for overclocking. I just got a new MOBO hence why I was in the bios. The first page there are three buttons, one is performance.

It seems it's a good thing I fitted the new cooler then if ive accidentally overclocked it a bit. It's an Asus P8Z77-V LK board.

Who knew. Perhaps I can manually tune it to run quicker than considering it runs low at max load. Maybe I should I manually do it, as long as it stays below 80 deg C i read.

Strange though, never heard of this before. All the guides mention adjusting settings etc as I said.

They do take the work out of it for you.. No setting adjustments needed when you use 1 click. I'd leave it right where it is..
