Has MS competely abandoned support for BC?

All I want is Capcom vs SNK2:EO to work on my 360. Is that too much to ask for? Is there any speculation if this game will EVER be supported?

Wikipedia says the last back-compat update was November 27th of last year. I guess it's always possible they'll come out with another batch at some point, but I certainly wouldn't get my hopes up anytime soon. Depending on if the life cycle of the 360 is 5 or 6 years, we're either past the halfway mark already, or quickly coming up on it. Adding titles to the back-compat list might even be off the board at this point.

I believe they usually release the new BC games with the spring/fall updates. There wasn't a spring update this year so it's possible that they'll add some more in the fall update but I wouldn't count on it. I remember reading somewhere that they weren't planning to do many more updates there.

I'm sure they'd rather see people repay for downloads of the games.

That makes a lot of sense considering every Xbox Live Originals game is on the BC list.

Give it up, it won't matter even if CvS2 does go BC, because the guaranteed slowdown is going to ruin the game.

I actually _don't_ think they've given up on BC, because the Xbox Originals project actually makes it a profit center. I really do think we'll see at least another update before the end of the year.

I thought I remember them saying quite a few months ago they were done, that every game worth having on BC was already there.

Nooooooooooooo! Well, I guess I'm gonna have to keep my original XBox around. 🙁

Yep, never assume a corporation has your best intentions at heart.

I actually assume they don't have my best interests at heart.

I believe in the statement that BD is referring to, the spokesman basically implied that they were reaching the point of diminishing returns on their efforts. They haven't quite shut down the effort but they are getting close.

Well, diminishing returns was their justification, and its a fairly reasonable one, but I do recall them getting as close to saying "we're done" as they possibly could without setting the internet ablaze by proclaiming the total end of BC support. I'd be surprised to see any more updates come out unless there was some sort of petition begging/threatening them with bad publicity.

I hardly think its anything as sinister as them trying to resell you the game rather than patch in support - its the same code that allows the disc and the DLed image to run - I'm sure its nothing more than simple economics. The people needed to write the emulation code and tailor it for each game need to be paid, and when you consider the diminishing returns, its no longer a profitable venture, especially when the consequence is "I'll keep my xbox around" instead of "I won't buy a 360".
