Has Long Tail Pricing hit Amazon Fashion?

For many years, Amazon has employed a Long Tail pricing strategy for its books, putting significant discounts on its best selling books while giving niche or more obscure books little to no discount. With this strategy, Amazon feels that a customer is likely to pay a premium from niche or more obscure books.

Over the past several months, it appears that on Amazon with several IZOD products, the "Fairy Tale" pink color was less frequently discounted compared to the more conservative colors which obviously sell more. This could be a sign that Amazon might be employing long tail pricing on certain clothing brands, where mainstream colors get the most discounts while niche colors are less frequently discounted. I wonder if the average IZOD customer is really willing to pay a premium for niche colors.

Probably brands were this doesn't apply are premium and luxury brands which have certain contractual pricing rules by the manufacturer, as well as items sold by third party sellers.
