Has Katrina re-ignited racism.

Between Bill Bennets statements and Rush Limbaugh calling Mayor Nagin, Mayor Nager (sounds like something else, doesn't it) there seems to be a lot of latent racism being expressed.

nobody likes the poor. Since most of the poor in NO were portrayed as black (which is true), people are making the slippery slope conclusion that all blacks are poor.

Our society, and particularly the media, tends to label stereotype based prejudice as racism. Then again, the reason many stereotypes exist are because certain behavioral cues serve to fuel those stereotypes...but to comment on that makes you a racist.

Why does the left get their panties bunched up at every opportunity to reignite racism? The left blames the right for creating the poor, yet years of leftist socialist programs and trillions of dollars has done nothing to bring the poor out of poverty. This is just the liberals way of diverting attention from the fact that they failed at delivering on their promises.

You want to talk about failing on delivering promises? Where's Osama? Where are all those WMDs? Your reply is

No, the current administration is what has reignited its acceptance.
So you are saying that thanks to the Bush Administration, our society now accepts and embraces racism? Does that only pertain to white on black racism, or are we going to continue to ignore the black on white racism that has simply become accepted by our society, because to criticize that manifestation of racism automatically results in your being labeled a racist.

If we are going to bring up racism, why don't you be honest and expose the LEFT of doing it as well? Or are you too partisan to do that? Was it racist of the press to report the murders and rapes at the Superdome that now appear to be almost a complete lie? Did the lefty reports simply accept these reports because they ASSUMED such behavior from black people during a time of crisis?

How about the black leaders of NOLA who have done absolutely NOTHING to get these people our of poverty over the past 30 years? Were THEY interested in keeping black people in need of them as well?

Lets discuss ALL racism, and not just Rush saying 'Nager'.. The racism here seems to be mostly on the left, which makes sense as they need the black vote to keep thinking they need the democrats.

No reply necessary. Why can't you end poverty? Why have you taken over 30 years and trillions of dollars and failed?

Of course you don't want to answer. It's easier to avoid the question then look like a complete idiot. Oh wait... you already did that!:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

FTW!

The left doesn't want racism to end. If it did, they'd lose alot of votes. As long as those rich white liberals act like racism is strong and act like they are going to stop it, they'll continue to get the vote of the poor black people that they supposedly relate to. 😕

Lol, sorry I couldn't (and didn't want to) convey the complexity of the issue in one short sentence, but calling me on it is a pretty weak strawman... Regardless, Bush makes the common man feel comfortable in voicing his seat of the pants assumptions and other displays of lack of thought. After all, he does. This includes, but isn't limited to, two-way racism.

😕 You go completely off topic and then accuse me of avoiding your question? Regardless, I agree that welfare and other attempts at socioeconomic reform have failed miserably, I'm not a lib/dem and don't hold their views.

Poverty among African Americans is both greatly improved since Johnson's pledge and intolerably widespread. In 1959, the first year poverty statistics were collected, 55 percent of African Americans were below the poverty line. By 1966, that had fallen to 41.8 percent; it was 24.7 percent last year.

Now that poverty is going up, you can claim success with conservatism.

There really isn't a topic here. The thread started with OP. No news source cited.

Only the left can think a hurricane can create racism. Hell, it's swirling wind. It doesn't care what color your skin is.

Actually poverty is down from where it was during the liberal Clinton years. Bush's administration spends more money on liberal entitlement programs than any other administration in history. Of course you want to play the race card here, which is fitting since this thread is about reigniting racism. Why don't you realize that being in poverty isn't based on your skin color. :disgust::thumbsdown:

It's not conservatism that has failed, it's the liberal social programs.

Huh? The number of people in poverty has risen for the last three years. Like most "conservative", you guys love to make claims with no proof.

See the trend leading to 2000? See 2002-2004? Now I assume you will provide numbers proving that Bush has spent more on low income/poverty based programs? Oh ya, he hasn't. A hand out to pharmaceutical companies known as the Prescription Drug Act doesn't count Hannity-lite.

Do you actually have any proof for the stuff you come up with?

While the "numbers" have risen, the percentage of people in poverty has fallen. More liberal spin from the partisan hacks. edit: I was referring to Bush's midterm % vs Clinton's. My bad. Can't argue that Bush isn't ahead of the game.

PW0NED!!!

Two for one. bwahahahaha

Had people any idea at all of their own emotional poverty they would envy those who only lack money.

We create what we fear and we fear knowledge of our own poverty. That is why we hate and create the poor. Our self hate has to be expressed somewhere.

A liberal hopes to help himself by helping the poor and a conservative has built his denial of his own self hate by achievement of normative success. Both are doomed to fail because neither will look at himself and see the root of the problem. So we swing between frustration with poverty and frustration that we can't make it go away. We never treat ourselves who are the truly poor.

You have been forgiven but you will not believe. That is only for those who have cried themselves to death.

I think the ridiculous overreaction of the media to the comments of those two clowns is doing far more damage to race relations than the comments themselves.

There IS a problem with race relations in America, and it isn't all Whitey's fault this time. We need to face it. But Bill Cosby seems to be the only one who is able to speak frankly about it without being crucified as a racist/nazi/oppressor/oreo whatever. People in academia and the media are terrified of taking anything but the most deferential, liberal stance when discussing racial tensions - because they know that offending even one "person of color" could potentially end their careers. How can we ever solve our problems if we're not allowed to talk about them?

I personally think George Bush is a lousy President, but he has put together the most racially diverse cabinet of any administration in history. To say that he and mainstream Republicans hate black people is idiotic, pointless and divisive. The Republicans hate people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. It doesn't matter what color they are. That's one of the few areas I agree with them.

there is a big difference between nagers and black people. but some people think they are one and the same. not true. the black people in my town call them "drigai". check that name out under creole.
