Has Folding@Home been forgotten?

As the question in the title says - what's happened? It seems that we used to be passing teams regularly, and there was more excitement about it all, but now the statsman site only shows us being passed in the near future, and participation seems to be way down. :(

Is the general concensus here that Folding@Home is to be left by the wayside in favor of the other medical-oriented projects (the two popular ones right now being D2OL and DF), or is there still some interest in this project?

Its not so bad- im folding for the team! :)
yep, seriously situation is not so good, we are on steady 17th for now but only 54 members out of 168 are active (over last 7 days), team is small too.
I hope that after Eccp has been finished F@H team will get some boost.
Help is appreciated! :)

Why don't you "do" command line stuff? It's easy to get going, and then once you're sure it's working right, you can easily make it run as a system service, where it is conveniently out of the way (which is what I've done in the past and what I'm going to do with Folding@Home once I make sure that it's going to run ok).

Glad to hear from another Folder! I'd love to see more ECCp-109 veterans come over to the Folding@Home project, but unfortunately it seems like most of them are going to the project where all the excitement is right now (D2OL). I've only heard of one other former ECCp-er who was planning on going to Folding@Home. :(

Hmm was there something that started all the excitement for D2OL. All I know was that once I was done with ECCp 109 I posted a topic about switching over and you know the rest. I might be able to spare a system or so next year. Folding@Home has not been forgotten by me! I will help some time. :D

I'm still folding for the team as well. I think either this project or D2OL would be great for new members statswise, if anybodys looking to join a project. I'm only running a xp1600 and celeron 900 for F@H and it looks like I will top out about #11 or so on the team.

Recruiting efforts aside, If we get passed I can pull away 2 P4 1.5's and a k62-500 from other projects to help us out untill we get some more folders.

After I get my SETI crackrack established and settle some other plans, I'll likely move one or two of my current fleet PCs back to the F@H project to pick up where I left off. :)

How does the exchange of F@H workunits work? I'm stuck with a modem and would prefer to keep SETI/UD-sized workunits to a minimum. How much data transfer is involved?

Im on modem too, once u've downloaded F@H CLI it will automaticaly download F@H core file (FahCore_65.exe or FahCore_78.exe) each about 1,5 mb for the first time (it is needed for the processing), and about F@H WUs its sometimes smaller then SETI WUs, sometimes a litlle biger i think, and ofcourse u can controll it (automatic or manual connect).
Team is small and u can progress very well :)

The only issue that exists currently is a time limit on the WUs, and Folding@Home's network code's less than optimal behavior when behind a dialup router. The developers have been notified about this problem on the excellent Folding-community forum, and hopefully we'll be seeing a resolution of this problem (the dialup sending issue) in the next version of the client. :)

I was on ECCP. Now I'm giving f@h a go.

I do have a question. I currently use it on one machine, but i'd like to use it on another one as well. How do I set this up? Do i just set up the client (I'm using the command line) as if it is the only machine I'm using? or can i copy stuff from my current set up onto the second machine? (hope you follow that!!)

Cool. Glad you decided to try it out. You shouldn't copy the entire folder that contains your F@H client, or the unit cache and other files that are unique to each machine will get screwed up. Just copy the client (FAH3Console.exe) into a new folder, and set it up like you did your first one. You should use the same username for all systems, and remember to put in 198 for your team number! :)

I've uninstalled the ECCp-109 and replaced it with the Folding@Home and I've added a PIII 500 to replace my Thunderbird 1.33 that doesn't have an Internet connection.

If you have a large fleet and want to track it's progress check out this cool program...

Looks like a cool program, downloading now. :)

Foldmonitor was what I used to use, but it consumed a large amount of RAM; hopefully this one will be lighter.

Im still folding away for TeamAnd!! I have noticed a lot of members dropping off over the last 6 months..... too bad we were rocketing to the top a while ago.... It has been a while since we started around 150th place!!

PS: Get the new 3.19 version of F@H both GUI and Command Line..... they have several bug fixes addressed......

yes, we could use a few more members on the team, or a few more machines from our current members.

at one time I felt we would be in the top 10 by the new year............however I don't see that happening now.

so if you are looking for a project by all means check out F@H

What the Folding@Home TeAm needs is some sort of publicity around here.

I suggest we sort out some stats, milestones and welcome threads for new members.

I am going to ask any of our TeAm's statsmen if they can give us a hand on this project.

BTW my current rig configuration is up to 3 processors:

- 1 Athlon XP 2100+
- 1 Athlon XP 1900+
- 1 Pentium III 500

I'm on the lookout for one additional XP 2100+ and also some XP 1800+ and Durons.
