Will steer clear, thanks!

Lol, its not that bad, there are a lot of nice areas here, and this city has a rich and diverse history.

Im probably moving to Los Angeles next summer, how is it there?

Where in Los Angeles Specifically? You can go a couple miles past a freeway (405) and it will be a rich and safe neighborhood (Palos Verdes, el segundo) but you can go a couple miles the other way and it will be Compton. But in all I think Los Angeles is a pretty safe city just aslong as you stay away from trouble.

Around Beverly Hills hopefully if we can afford it. Rent is looking like $2000 for a 1 bedroom though. :(

You dont think this sort of thing happens in other areas? I bet it was all people of a colored decent that did these crimes as well, right?

Hasn't changed the way I live...

In the 18 years I lived at home, we never once locked our house. We very rarely even locked our cars. No crime/burglary/robbery ever happened on our block in the 21 years I've been alive.

This is a midwestern town of about 10,000 people.

yeah I dont think Beverly Hills is all that great to be paying that much money for an APT. Look around Westwood, Santa Monica to be close to Downtown. Torrance area for a nice suburb area that's still close to Downtown. Or just go all out to a Suburb like Irvine or something.

How is that a stereotype? If anything you are the one opening the door to racial connection with crime.

In the town I live in thoes things the OP listed don't happen. If they do happen, then you're in the city, probably near the ghetto.

Well, my wife is going to be working there, so we wanted to live close by. I was wondering about the surrounding areas around that since Beverly hills is so expensive.

My friend works in Beverly Hills but lives in between Westwood and Santa monica (Sawtelle area). Says the commute to work is about 15-20 minutes to Beverly hills and he pays around 600 for his own room out of a 3 bedroom apartment. I would think you can get a decent place for a more reasonable price there than in Beverly Hills. If you don't need upscale, you can check out the Palms area or Culver City. Those areas aren't as nice, but still pretty safe and considerably less expensive.

Cool, thanks for info. I was told the commute from Santa Monica to Beverly Hills was over a hour?

So you avoided the entire question about all of this. You are associating the ghetto with bad things. You make assumptions that everything in the ghetto is bad.

I went from that kind of place to gun crim ecapital of the UK.
Still, I've only had my bike nicked, but I was in a taxi and the driver was saying how he'd been shot at once, and there had been gunfights are his area (about 5 minutes away from where I am).

Might be if you take Santa Monica Blvd, Pico or the Freeway. I think he takes Olympic. You'll figure out short cuts here and there once you get to know the area.

hey if you were willing to spend close to $2000 for a one bedroom apartment then take a look at Park La Brea www.parklabrea.com

my friend lives there and it's a pretty nice place thats close to Beverly hills and all the good Night life attractions.

oh and it's cheaper than a 1 bedroom for $2000
