Has ASUS customer support lost the plot?

I have a wee whinge about my new-ish p9 x79 pro MB... The boot order. I would like to be able to put a cd / dvd in, and if it is bootable, at least ASK me if I want to boot from it... If there is nothing in the drive, or it is not bootable, then just go to the next boot device in the list. Simple, right? I mean, every MB I have ever had (up to now) had this feature... DFI's, Gigabyte's, even some older ASUS's... But now? I just CANNOT get this new MB to have a boot order I can live with. I mean, going into the boot menu is no really big deal, but I've NEVER had to do this before...

So to get to the topic... I sent off a support request to ASUS support. Filled out the long -every-device-known-to-man-and-dog-that-is-in-on-or-around-your-motherboard form that support needs, then described my problem, how I had tried to place the DVD drive as the first boot device, and the fact that... Well, I'll just copy in the rest.

"Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Technical Service.

"if there is no CD/DVD in drive the boot process just hangs".
What do you expect the drive to do when there is no CD/DVD?

Sorry for the trouble. Wish you a good day.

If you continue to experience issues in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
Best Regards,
Xxxxxx
ASUS Global Technical Support Center"

I have either left out or xxx'ed some personal details....

I'm not sure I understand your problem:

I have an ASUS motherboard as well and I can simply put my CD/DVD/Blu-Ray drive into the first slot of boot devices. When I start my PC it will check if there is any bootable disk in my drive and will start from it.
Furthermore I believe you can hit F8 (I believe) on like any motherboard to manually select your boot device.
For reference I don't have a drive in my case actually, since I only game on it and download my games via steam. I have an external drive though.

On your issue with ASUS support: I wholeheartedly agree. Their support is piss poor. It took me days to actually get a ticket, as I couldn't find my serial number. I had no clue they put their serial number on the carton the board ships with. It is stupid not to print it on the motherboard itself and I actually believe this is illegal here in Germany as by law customers are not forced to keep cartons. Support must be granted on the product itself with the according bill.
Also when I put in one wrong number in the German ASUS website I received an error message in Taiwanese. Had to check with google translate just to figure out that it means 0 are always 0 and not Os.
I completely agree that it is ridiculous to put in all the informations about your computer on the support form. I had a question about a supposed feature of my board...why do they need to know from which vendor my graphic card is from?
Needless to say that their actual support was useless. They just referred me to some German forums and ask my question their.

I think this was my first and last ASUS motherboard but your mileage will vary. I just don't feel like I'm treated correctly as a customer on support questions.

Ok, you made me reboot. But it works like it should, no cd/dvd in there and it skips to booting from ssd. Are you using the latest bios? Sure all boot options are configured correctly?

The support answer is a bit strange yes, I'd expect it to boot from the next device.

Their support is the reason I stopped buying their products. Seriously, I RMA'd an HD 7750 due to it crashing. They sent me back my same card with the same issues. Nothing was even written on the repair work order. I emailed them with a question and received no response.
