Has anything statistically improbable happened to you

I keep running into people i know at the most random places.

One friend of mine that i met freshmen year in college (I hardly see him around Ann Arbor) I managed to run into a) Cancun, mexico b) New York city.

Another thing like that - I lived in Manhattan this summer and the only person i know in state of NY is a
former coworker of mine that's from Brooklyn. Anyway the first night i get into town, I go hit up a bar thats like a block away from where i live. Of course he's there....

I was floating in the vaccuum of outer space, and right at the 29 second mark, before I would have died, I was rescued by a passing starship powered by the new infinite improbability drive.

Let me summarize a concept for you:

While individual events may be statistically improbable, it is VERY probable that quite a few of these types of events will occur to you.

5 years ago I had an ex-girlfrind that I hadn't seen in 6 years call me in the middle of having sex with my wife :D She's broadcasting over the answering machine saying in a perky voice "Hi! I haven't seen you in a while, but I think about you a lot and was wondering if you'd like to meet for lunch or something! I got your number from John (how did she get HIS number???). How's "Moley" doing? (I have a mole in a 'private' area she's refering too)."

Yeah...that killed the mood. I got in trouble for it, questioned everytime I left the house, etc.

I've seen four meteorites (hmm... I always forget the right terminology - when they're burning up in the lower atmosphere... those ones), without ever trying to see one. I'm not sure how rare that is, but each time I was in a group, and was the only person that saw them.

The most recent one was last night and it only disappeared about 100-200 feet above the ground, maybe a quarter mile from my balcony.

yeah. Once in Texas hold'em I hit a full house on the flop and some guy hit a 4-of-a-kind on the river.

I can't really think of anything like the OP that has happened to me... but the other night we were kind of hating on the bass/guitar player for her school's jazz band and it just so happen her mom was behind us  that was dumb.

oh oh. i just thought of one like the OP's. a friend of mine and i had to go pick up his brother from the epply airport. he was on a plane from minneapolis. and as we were standing in the terminal, someone walked up to me and kicked my leg. it was the lady who spearheaded the skatepark construction project in nebraska city. my friends and i wanted to get a skatepark so she helped us. and her son, who i was really good friends with in high school (we played on tennis team and skated a ton), was on the same flight. i thought to myself "what are the chances of me being at the terminal at the same time she was" and "what are the chances of her son and a guy i met at college's brother being on the same flight".

kinda weird.

One of my current martial arts instructors is one of the highest ranked instructors in the country of a (relatively) rare style (call him Ned).
Having said that, he happened to teach where my university is - he was teaching privately, and was looking to open a club.
Hooked him up with my other instructor of a different style (call him Jason), who helped him get a club going.

Coincidentally, one of the guys Ned was teaching privately is an exec at State Farm, and is currently hooking me up with a job (which I don't think I'll take, but I definitely should thank).

The kicker is, the club in which Jason teaches is a branch school of a rather big club, big enough to publish a national monthly magazine focused on Jason's style. I have, in my entire career with them (over 7 years) only bought one magazine. I thumb through it recently, and there's an article of Ned's master (our entire system's grandmaster) in that particular magazine, about how great Ned's style was.

Now, mind you - I bought the magazine well before I met Ned, and I wasn't even paying attention to it when I bought it at the time.

Weird. :Q

My house was hit by lightning about 3 years ago.

Also, my wife won a free trip to Paris back in 98 for the world cup.

A couple of things.

1. One time I managed to get all of the RRs in McDonals monpoly but I never kept them. So I dont know which one was the hard one to get.
2. I have a friend who I always run into at some party or bar. Usually never anywhere near home and no matter what happens we also end up getting smoked up by some hot chick. It is funny because neither of us smoke except then. The Hot chick part is even more funny because she usually has a BF or is married, yet drop dead hot.

When I was travelling in Europe in 1995, I ran into two people I knew in Junior High ... at the same hostel on the same weekend and they weren't travelling together, nor, indeed did they even know one another. Crazy.
