Has anyone used WinXP ICS to sucessfully share a University Internet connection?

Im trying to use WinXP ICS to share my University desktop with my laptop. The ICS help file says that it shouldn't be used with a static ip (which I have) or a network with Win2K domain controllers (maybe that's me). Im at Penn State, and Im guessing most other large university networks are similar. Whenever I try to use ICS, not only does it not share the connection with the laptop, but also kills the main desktop's connection. It worked at home in the same config, but won't work on the network here.

So has anyone gotten ICS to sucessfully work with a university connection?

Thanks.

If your university was anything like my old one then you could just buy a cheap 4 port switch and have both computers connected.

Unless they limit access by MAC Address then this should work. I DOUBT they limit access via MAC Address.

they actually do limit access by mac address. before you recieve the ip addy, etc from the university you have to submit your MAC address. i didnt want to buy a router, so I choose to use ICS instead.
