Has anyone used the Intel board D845PESVL?

I did a Google search on it and found nothing.

This board will be going into a system for a friend. She doesn't do much other than write letters/online banking/e-mail/card games etc. No hard core games like Unreal or Medal of Honor.

How is Intel's onboard video nowadays?

Thanks,

Well Intel boards pretty much force you to run everything at default speeds so no tweaking.
But they will be stable and the onboard video will be fine if she is never going to play games.

That board has the i845PE chipset and doesn't have onboard video. You can check the board info here. You can check the specs on other Intel boards here.

If you want to go with a REALLY cheap solution then use the Intel D845GLLYL (i845GL, onboard graphics, sound, SDRAM, LAN, 400FSB, $80), some PC133 SDRAM (dirt-cheap right now, 256MB = $19) and a 1.7GHz Celeron (about $54). That's perfect for home users who mainly use internet and office apps. We use the D845GLLYL a lot for new builds and the damn thing is ROCK solid, plus the great Intel quality and 3-year guarantee are nice too.:)

Coz Thanks for input. The "Cheap" solution would work, but I want to "future proof" this system for here(ie a 533 main bus,DDR, etc) Thank you for the suggestion though.

If she's not going to be doing any gaming look at one of the 845GE boards. Intels' onboard video is fine for 2D but lackluster for 3D. Some of the 845GExxx boards are only $10-15 more than the 845PESVL you're looking at.

She does some photo editing so I am kinda leaning towards a DVI video card. Sorry I should have stated that earlier. I already got her one of the Dell/Samsung 19" LCD displays. I love the Hot deals section:) A 900 dollar monitor for 719 shipped:) But I digress

Well, then get her one of the 845PE boards like the PESVL you were talking about at the top of the thread. I've never heard of a bad Intel 845 board. I build a fair amount of systems for people and almost everyone of them in the last 10-11 months has been on an 845 board of some sort. All of them are running absolutely 100% stable.

Get yourself one of those $60 ATI Radeon 7500 LEs that have DVI out and no fan and you're good to go. I'm using that card on one of my systems right now and the DVI image quality of my Dell 1900FP (the same monitor you got her, right?) is beautiful. This is the card I use on most of the boxes I build for people that aren't going to game and want good 2D quality.

The newer ATI drivers aren't too bad at all. Last year I was running the 6071's 100% stable. I *think* those are the drivers that are included in XP sp1. The newer drivers are also working good for the most part. I'd say ATI and Invidias' "clinker-rate" is about the same now.

I've spent thousands over the years w/o having the cash for a 19" LCD- I don't think we're on the same "cost saving" page.
You sure this isn't for the yacht?
