I am fortunate enough to have the exclusive use of a palm M515 (the color flagship of the Palm lineup) - a nice perk for being one of the computer service IT guys at the school district.
:)

Anyway, I was looking into some map software to use instead of the good 'ol Rand-McNally atlas and paper street maps. I found the HandMap software for the Palm platform pretty interesting. Here is a link to their website:

http://www.handmap.net

For $16 (to register the program) plus an additional $25 (to "subscribe" to the US map database) you are supposed to gain access to their ENTIRE library of over 3000 US county maps. I am thinking that if I had to buy paper maps for 90% of the counties in the US, it would cost a heck of a lot more than $41!!!! I have tried the free demo of the software and have been impressed so far (they let you try maps of NY City and Allegheny, PA). You can scroll the color maps, zoom in to a max of 64X, search for street names, landmarks, or intersections, and edit the maps to add your own notes. This might be great for quick on the fly reference while trying to find the elusive connections getting to a campground (especially since you can enter the name of a road and it jumps right to it - ever have to hunt for a road on a paper map?)

I would appreciate any comments from people who have tried this or any other palm map software. This one can work with GPS (for a few more bucks PLUS the cost of a GPS module for the palm) - but I am not looking to go GPS .......at least not yet.

Comments appreciated.
