Has anyone used Fumoto oil drain valves?

How could it really save that much time? It literally saves just the effort of finding one additional socket. Even if it's a great product it seems to be a solution to something that isn't much of a problem.

I have one on my Z...

Not out of convenience, but out of reliability. having a cast pan on my car, many end up stripping out the plug hole. if installed correctly they are nice and should not leak. depending on your application, you may need to account for clearance issues. the piece will stick out/down from the plug area about an inch or so. on my car, this was directly downward and is almost the lowest point of the car, making it somewhat of a concern

Hate getting my hands dirty with used oil. Also, I had an incident where the catch pan wasn't aligned properly... this would be a lot more convenient.

Wear disposable gloves?

I'd be worried about this thing catching on something and breaking off, thereby draining your engine of oil while you're travelling down the road. Could be something as simple as a retread kicked up by the car in front of you or a rock dropped by a truck.

I would, too. A box of Nitrile (silicone suck) gloves lasts a long time. And chances are you're gonna get oil on hands changing filter anyway.

I had one installed on my 2006 Civic and loved it! Thanks for reminding me. I gotta get one for my new car.

Best invention evAr.

They're invaluable to Insights(and most other Hondas), because it saves you from having to work the weak threads in the magnesium oil pans.

The best thing is that you can get ones with a nipple on the end. That way you can just attach a hose and let the oil drain without having to take off all the undebody panels on my cars.

Road debris hitting them is a non issue. The valve is secure. You've got other things to worry about if you're running over things like that.

Do you not work in a world where gravity exists?

If you're wearing gloves the oil gets on the gloves, not on your skin. I changed the oil in my old bike just before I sold it, gloves kept my hands nice and clean. Just pull the glove off (it turns inside out and contains what is on it) and dispose of, no mess.

Did the brakes on my car and gloves helped keep my hands from the chemicals and dirt. Granted I went through probably 3 pair between the 2 front wheels it still beats getting your hands filthy and the chemicals on your skin. Brake cleaner is pretty nasty stuff.

Oil drips off the gloves...

Ditto on the nipple. Have had one of these on my truck for four years. I simply jack up the truck, place a piece of tubing on the nipple, and place the other end of the tubing in a 1 gallon jug. No mess, and yes it is a time saver. Still have to deal with the filter, but that isn't too big a deal.

Has anyone used Fumoto oil drain valves? See here at amazon:

I do my own oil changes and this looks very tempting, I figure it would save quite a bit of hassle, however I'm concerned about long time longevity and of course potential leaks.

Has anyone used one of these? How long do they last and are they reliable?

They come standard on our excavators since the -6's and are great to say the least...

Here is another type that I have used before also...

It would be pretty cool if they had a mini hose attached to it / easily attached to it. I would buy one then.

😛

I think they offer two versions - one with a nipple and one without, so make sure to order the right one 😀

Forgot about another one that most of you would like... It uses a fitting that screws into the pan and is a valve that is closed and has a screw on cap to keep dust and junk out... To drain the pan you remove the cap and screw on the fitting with hose that comes with it and the oil will start to drain when you have screwed it on far enough... A link to them below...

I'm sure there are others that make these but this is only one I could find for now...?

BTW dont loose the hose... 😀
