At work I needed to load XP on a mini that came with ubuntu, and used the XP cd the thing came with.

Well, there is no IE, Windows installer is disabled at every startup, looks like xp basic (98), and I can't even run the driver cd because of a 429 active x error whenever the cd loads. Half the drivers don't install manually because they say it is not correct for this platform.

What the hell is the deal with this? We got 2 other mini's preloaded with XP that is completely normal.

I can't get this thing running correctly, no one here at work has even heard of the ultra low cost version.

They told me to just use the regular xp cd with the rest of the Dell's they get but doesn't dell put restrictions on the Mini operating system?

I believe the Dell OEM XP disk should work with nearly any Dell. If it installs correctly it will already be activated once finished and you don't even have to enter a COA code. I'm remembering various Dell systems I've redone, all using the same Dell XP Pro SP2 disk (these boxes typically had either XP home or pro stickers but it never asked for code during install and everything functioned perfectly).
