Has anyone tried using the pencil lead itself to unlock a Tbird cpu?

What I mean, is has anyone tried using the pencil lead from a mechanical pencil and breaking it of in small pieces and taping that to the CPU? Does this work?

Also is there a web page out there that shows several different ways of unlocking a cpu? I have only found some messages in here but alot of the stuff I don't know exactly what they are talking about.

Do know how hard that would be?? why would you want to try when all you have to do is connect the dots its a piece of cake.............

I thought it might last longer. I really don't know. I was just thinking, people are talking about having to re-"connect the dots" every couple of months or so... I thought this might last a little longer than that... I was just wondering...

For that effort, it would be MUCH easier to do the defogger kit. If you want a real pain in the ass, I would rather break into AMD and use their machines to prevent one from being locked.

Really weird, BlackCatt.. I've thought about that -exact- same thing (using broken lead and taping it the pieces to the bridges) but I've never given it a try.. That would be a good experiment, too.

I did the pencil trick 4 months ago and I haven't had to redo it. System is very stable. Make sure it's good No.2 pencil lead or better, and you shouldn't have any problems.

Compellor, when you say you did the pencil trick. Do you mean you did the typical pencil trick that just about everyone does, or you tried my pencil idea breaking the lead and fastening them to the chip? 4 months is pretty good but I just don't want to keep taking the heatsink and fan off to redo these things...

Blackcatt,

Do yourself a favor and buy the defogger repair kit part #15067, sold at Auto-zone and other Auto parts stores. The kit is designed to repair rear window defoggers when one or more of the 'lines' on the defogger has been damaged. The kit contains a bottle of conductive fluid and a small brush. The brush is way too big for L1 bridges. Shake up the bottle well, and apply the fluid with a toothpick, with a slightly mashed end. The trick is to work quickly as the fluid dries fast. IMHO, the defogger kit is absolutely the best solution as defoggers operate through a wide range of temperatures.

Rgarding sticking something to the bridges, I believe that a Japanese company has developed conductive strips embedded in a sick on paper that spaced exactly for the bridges.

DaddyG,
Thanks for the good information. I see now what they mean by defogger kit. That sounds pretty permenant, is there anyway to remove it after you try it (if you mess up, or if it stops working) or is it a one shot deal?

i found i had to actualy whittle the toothpick down to a fine brush to get it to work right, but mebey some of you have steadier hands than i. as for cleanup, the stuff comes right off with a q-tip and some "goo gone" or pobably any other paint remover.

I can't beleive I'm hearing that suggested... Taping broken pieces of lead to a CPU? What kind of tape would you use...scotch, masking, or better yet duct tape?!?! haha..I would love to see that...talk about a ghetto box!

What do you think that you are essentially doing when you use a pencil? Little micro-fragments fill grooves in the paper (or AMD chip :D). If you're unsure about the lead (which I don't think you should be, I've heard nothing but success stories about it) I'm pretty sure I read something about using a soldering pen from Radio Shack (I think they cost about 20 bones).

Either way, good luck.

finger nail polish will remove the loctite if do it within a few minutes of applying the loctite. I haven't tried to do it after a few hours.
