has anyone tried using a minipcie notebook wifi card to pcie desktop card converter?

I have an Intel Centrino 6300 N wifi notebook card that won't work on my new lenovo laptop. instead of putting it up for sale i was thinking of using it on my desktop. is it worth shelling out $20 for one of these?

quick update: I got one on ebay for about $6 shipped and it seems like a plug and play w/ the intel wifi card and win7 so far. i haven't had much time to test the wifi connection yet, but looks promising.

thanks for the tip, i should have checked out ebay first, duh me.

I guess my question still stands, is it worth it? Is my intel 6300 Centrino notebook wifi card better than other desktop wifi cards?

I can't say they are any better or not, but at the price it's worth a try. I thought about grabbing one myself but I can't find the mini-pci card I had stashed away from my wife's old laptop. I ended up grabbing a wireless G card for just $1 more than the adapter anyway so it was a wash for me.

These are about $7 on ebay and yes it's worth a try 6300 provides the best desktop wifi solution, you might want to get new antennas if you want super performance. There is a review of it on another forum.

I've seen them for less than $7, but you may need to be patient and wait for an auction instead of a BIN.

not really you can just get a decent refurb router and rock it externally (client mode) to ethernet on your pc and enjoy far more power, no authentication (str8 ethernet to router) and multiple devices.

that is far ideal compared to a pci card that could crash your box, rf out the wazoo and antenna's that aren't hard mounted very well.
