Has anyone tried this to make razor blades last longer?

wtf

i read a thread here about how some people stick them in alcohol between shaves...that definitely seems to help get more life out of them.

i switched to a safety razor. between the razor and a trial assortment of blades and whatnot $100 is getting me farther than my mach 3. i keep a mach3 around just for...non facial areas that i dont want to slice to ribbons... :Q

Or oil. Grape seed oil, baby oil, olive oil, etc.

Or if you are real manly, used motor oil.

I just tested out the theory 30 seconds ago and it didn't work.

Old razer shaved a bit scratchy.
Old razer brushed on arm 10 times shave is slightly better than no brush on arm (could be placebo effect).
Old razer brushed on arm 20 times shave is exactly the same as 10 times.
Fresh razer shaved the rest of face is way smoother and closer.

1) guy takes 1.5 minutes to say something that would take 10 secs plus 2) he is shirtless like he just got out of the shower or something and he just happens to make a you tube video.

i don't do any of that... i've been using the same blade for the past 6 or 7 months or so... i shave with body wash (minor lather) and i seem to get as close a shave as when i originally bought it.

You must not have real man's facial hair.

A better option for poor folks would be to learn how to use a straight or DE razor. Initial investment's high, but over time it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Oh, and /facepalm @ "your arm is made of something like leather."

Either my skin is much more sensitive than others', or it's just in my head. If I go more than 2 weeks without changing blades (shave every day), it starts to irritate me.

yeah, mine's pretty worn out... but i'm still using it just fine. that gel strip is gone lol. it's just a column of razor blades and some rubber thing at the bottom now.

Lucky guy. When the lube strip is gone, I change the blade - otherwise it starts giving me cuts on my neck. Not cool.

IF I shave in the shower it tends to wear my blade faster. If I shave in the sink, with shaving cream my blades last longer. The difference is a few weeks.

Too bad I am lazy and just shave in the shower.
