Hey all, I just updated my promise controller driver with one from windows upate the other day. Needless to say it sucked something aweful, didn't feel like it was enabling busmastering (sorta like an old NT install). I decided to start crawling around on Asus' site to see if I could find a decent ATA100 promise driver for winXP. Their asuscom.de site has some sort of driver, I'm not sure if it's in the beta stages or not. I decided to give it a try as it's supposed to be compatible with winXP. The driver installed just fine but my bootup speed has now slowed to a crawl. When I go to bootup my computer it sits at the screen "starting winXP" for a good 3 minutes before it finally kicks me into the windows logon prompt. The good news is that once my computer finally boots up it runs fine and I have gained a decent speed boost compared to the built in promise controller driver that I was using with winXP. The only drawback to this new driver is that it slows down my bootup time considerably. I was wondering if it would be safe to try the same driver but this time use the win2k driver on my XP computer. I know that win2k and winXP have the same basic driver architecture so I'm pretty sure this would work, but would it be safe? Are there are any severe things that might happen to my OS install if I use the win2k promise driver in winXP?
