Has anyone tried switching from a 37" Westy to a 40" or 42" for their monitor?

Like many of you I have been enjoying the Glory that is the 37" Westy for the last 1 1/2 years. Sometimes I think I could go bigger, as long as I could retain the very sharp clarity/definition that the 37" provides even with small text.

I know that Westinghouse makes a 42" 1080p monitor with no receiver, just like the 37" Westy. They also make a 40" 1080p TV/DVD player, which does has a receiver.

My main question is: Has anyone ever tried ?upgrading? from the 37" to the 42" monitor, or even the 40" tv? And if so what is your opinion? Should I stay with the 37"? Do the larger ones retain the sharpness or not?

(Also, Hard Forum and AVS Forum had 100+ long page threads about using the 37" Westy as a monitor, has anyone seen similar threads about the larger monitors? Lastly, It is pretty well accepted that at 37", the Westy is the go-to choice, but Is there a brand, other than Westinghouse, that is superior at larger sizes)

Any knowledge on the subject would be appreciated. Thanks.

Everything will be the same, only bigger. If you sit close to the monitor then the text may not look as sharp just from the fact that it is bigger and the dots are bigger on the screen.

I've got a Westy 42-inch 720p. Works great at 7-8 feet and still looks good as close as 3-4 feet (though it's overwhelming that close). At 1080p I don't think you will have any problems.

I get a little back light bleed with a black background (not overly annoying). I was happy with my setup and then found the recommended settings on AVS - I got really happy after that.

I tried using a 32" Westy 720p TV for gaming for a couple months and couldn't stand it. I've heard the same complaints on 1080p TVs that text just itsn't crisp enough. Checking monitors out in person is the only way to go. If you have a laptop with compatible outputs bring it into the store and check it out.

The 37" 1080p Westy has a solid reputation as a first rate monitor. The threads at AVS Forum and Hard Forum went over 100 pages with virtually no negative reviews. I read for three days before I bought mine and it was one of the few buying decisions where nobody had anything bad to say. Other brands just don't work as a monitor, but for some reason the Westy 37" works exceptionally well. So I was hoping that someone whom had used the 37", and was familiar with how sharp and crisp the text is, had tried it on the 42" 1080p Westy monitor, (or even the 40" 1080p tv) and could give me a side-by-side (so to speak) comparison based on actual experience with both monitors. Since they don't really sell them in stores, that I know of, it is hard to just buy, test and return one.

I bought my 42" Westinghouse at Best Buy.

I do have my HTPC hooked up to it, but not sure I'd actually want it on my desk. Probably the biggest 1080p screen I'd want on my desk would be 32".
